I just worked on the exterior of my FR-S today. The windshield had lots of what looked like these types of pock marks on it. Oops! [general graffiti solvent] took some of them off (!) and I tried to do the whole windshield with it. 3M General Purpose Adhesive Remover worked, but not quite as well as Oops!. I wanted to try the solvents because a few weeks ago the exterior of my windshield fogged up when I entered my apartment garage. The fog clearly showed numbers in the upper, driver's side of the windshield because the fog did not stick as well to these numbers. I think these were stock numbers for the car for shipping and inventory purposes, probably written with some type of grease crayon.
What really worked for the "pock marks" was Griot's Garage Paint Cleaning Clay used with Griot's Garage Speed Shine. I understand that Griot's Garage now has Glass Cleaning Clay, but I did not have any on hand so I just used the regular paint cleaning clay and it worked just fine. I don't know if the clay would have worked as well without first using the solvents. After the cleaning it was clear that most of the "pock marks" were actually sap or contamination of some kind. There are still some marks left that are actually from road damage, including one fairly large chip (like 1-2 mm), but the glass now looks much better. I did not have time to closely examine the side and back windows, but my impression is that they are not as bad. I was planning to coat the windshield with Aquapel, but it was too hot and humid today for a good application so I will have to do it another day.

Dude clay your glass, get a medium or aggressive clay. I would recommend megiars red or blue. Red is more aggressive so be careful or do not use it on paint. Mix up your onr for clay lube dilution. Hope it helps

Thanks Tire - this helps a ton. I also put some elbow grease into the window surfaces and was able to remove some of them. I'm in an apartment complex and it could be stuff falling from the ceiling in the garage, but I haven't seen this with our prior cars. I'll check out Griot's and see if that will help remove the stuff more long term. Thanks!

Looks like some sort of overspray or contaminant. I had issues with some REAL sticky invisible contaminants on my tC (you can easily feel them just sliding your fingers across the glass -- very rough). Hamza7 and Black Tire hit it right on the head with detailing clay. I used a Clay Magic claybar (from Autozone, not very aggressive) and with just 3-4 swipes using ONR diluted as directed for clay lube, the glass was orgasmically smooth. While you're at it, get another clay bar and go over the paint. Takes relatively little time and your paint will be smooth as silk! (New cars often have bonded rail dust and other contaminants that a normal wash won't remove). Let us know if you're able to get that stuff off!

My windshield doesn't have the pox marks but rather it is streaked. I've always had good luck with windex but I've gone over it about four times now and the streaks are still there when the light hits the windshield at the proper angle.
Any one else have this? |

My FR-S had streaks in windshield/passenger window only noticeable under certain lighting. Took it to dealer and they said glass was bad. After some back and forth they replaced both under warranty.
New windshield then developed spots like Dang Lad experienced. Found washing with hot water followed by Invisible Glass removed the spots. Suspect it was sap.
