It wasn't a limited run; it was just another body style that was available. The GC(4dr) and GM(2dr) 2.5RS ran in the US from 1998-2001, with the bugeye taking over in 2002. They shared the same body with all of the STis up to version 6, the 22b (earlier pic), and quite a few limited edition cars made to celebrate Subaru's success in the WRC world, such as the WRX RB5 (for Richard Burns) and the WRX Type RA STI Version 2 V-limited. Having a 2.5RS in the US was the closest thing we could get to the WRX or STi and it felt like having a direct link to Subaru's WRC heritage.

I tried to limit it to engines that are actually affordable, hence no V16. What's got a Flat 2 that I missed? I guess there's plenty of motorcycles with them...

Edit: D'oh, Citroen 2CV, thought that was a V2 for some reason
Yep bikes with F2 and the cute 2CV. I completely forgot about the Wankel! I'm amazed that Mazda are still at it.

Two foresters and a BRZ.

I don't know if I'll ever do it again for something sporty.

To your question, I'm pretty sure I can come up with something worth driving for any layout in an affordable price bracket. Except the 2 cylinders...

Surprised to see driver low quality Fulvia's are still affordable for that V4 goodness.

The new Morgan 3 wheeler with the V2 looks like fun! As for finding unusual engine configurations at affordable prices that won't require fettling... I think will be a rare thing.

Before my FRS, I had a 2012 STI. Bought it at 33k miles and cylinder 4 died before I did the first oil change on it. Cleared the CEL and traded it back in to the same dealer for my FRS. Not happy with Subaru engine reliability, but I got an extended warranty this time

2013 STI Sedan followed by the 2015 BRZ. Drove and tracked the snot out of that STI and it treated me well.

There used to be a beautiful red one with gold rims driven by a very attractive young lady, that puttered around midtown Toronto.

Oh. I forget that I'm hanging around a new car forum, a good portion of the population has no interest in getting dirt under their fingernails, meanwhile the prospect of inspecting the valves on a BMW V12 is something that sounds like fun to me... At least with the proper time and facilities available (of which I am currently lacking).

Given the proper facilities I would be right there up to my elbows. Although I should clarify a point. Do I need or want to do the work inspecting the valves?

It's German, it needs it just like it needs you to only turn the ignition for 3s, no more, no less, and and warm up for 3 minutes before setting off and the plastic coolant overflow tank is on a 5 year replacement interval.

Both very fun cars that were much maligned by the press.

The Corvair got a bad rap by old Ralphie and the horror stories were all later proven to be untrue or grossly exaggerated. That thing was a blast to drive and was as reliable as hell.

The Karmann Ghia was also a blast and really proved that HP numbers can be very misleading. It was actually a bit of a technological marvel for it's day. And that hand crafted body was a work of art.

I would own either one again today and be proud to show it off.
