I just moved here in September and I can't really offer a lot of advice since my FR-S has been garaged for the winter at a friend's house in Wisconsin. I'll bring her out of hibernation in spring. We're using the husband's Focus ST in the winter and put some winter tires on it.
I will offer this: get the winter tires. Do not stay on your summer tires. Even driving his car was terrible until we got them, and that was BEFORE the snow - that was just the cold air impacting the grip.
