He mentioned in his first post that he told his son to do that.

Of course, I've mentioned several things for my kids to do that they never did ....

Not all engine trouble codes cause the cel light to turn on.

scan for srored codes, you may well have the cam sensor problems that requires sensor to be shimmed, that issue can cause hard starting or some other issue may be pointed to by stored engine codes

also check your rom calid 2013 should be B01C or D if its earlier get the update from dealer

Is it garage kept? Maybe its just to cold outside and the car wants to stay in bed. This is the exact reason I didn't keep my GT. I could never leave it outside EVER. Probably wont even have this problem when it gets warmer

Many dealers will not update unless your car exhibits symptoms from the TSB. I know I'm on the old cal but don't have a chance at the update because my car no longer has the idle rpm fluctuation. At least that's the current situation in my neck of the woods.

Also found out they when it does start, only after the prolonged cranking, the engine kind of stumbles to life.
He is trying to record it happening but hasn't gotten it yet. I found this video online and he said it does the same thing....

Also found there is a TSB for a crank sensor position. Which one of the causes is "hard to start"

Yep, as @steve99 recommended, I'd have a code reader hooked up to see if it has any stored codes.

BTW, as I mentioned, a code reader (< $100), is a good thing to have on hand.

Back in the day ...... before codes ...... it most likely would have been because an automatic choke was sticking .......(someone just shoot me .... ).

My car did this exact same thing. I finally took it to the dealer, who was unable to replicate the problem. However I have not had the problem since...I think they reflashed the ecu, because I noticed the throttle went through the learning phase when I got it back.

Any advice on what brand and model code reader to get? Or the cheapest place to buy?(Amazon?).

I once had some issues with my 2000 Durango and learned from forums that it has a built in code reader. You just go through some particular sequences with the ignition and codes pop up where the odometer is. Then you just look up what that code means.... Shocked that newer cars don't have this.

Using premium gas? Mine used to have trouble starting after I first bought it. Didnt know it needed 91/93. I guess I was also driving though Kansas during 0* weather.

.
The one I use is made by Innova. As I recall, I paid about $75 at an auto store, some years back.

Any OBD II reader with CAN capabilities will be useful.

Yes, Amazon has good prices.

I've had the same problem fairly consistently but could never re-create at the dealership or find a decent pattern to re-create the issue myself.

Just had my car in and got the high-pressure fuel pump replaced. They also upgraded the ECU. Between those two, I think it did the trick...hasn't happened since. My money's on the HPFP but who knows. Hope that's of some help...

Yes, it did happen to me on 4-5 occasions.
Not a battery issue, because once it happened the day after I had changed it.
Also not a cold issue. It happened in summer and winter.
Really scary and can't figure out what this is...
Very occasional.
