Official: Lamborghini Centenario LP 770-4 looks like it came from the future

Ferruccio Lamborghini would probably be flattered to see the company that bears his name celebrate his 100th birthday. But this year also marks the 50th anniversary of the March 1966 debut of the Lamborghini Miura at the Geneva auto show. The mid-engined Miura, of course, is often considered the first supercar. It made the subsequent Ferrari 365GTB/4 Daytona look dated, and it fundamentally changed the industry’s approach to high-performance cars. It is on these occasions that Lamborghini is set to unveil a new hypercar, the Centenario.

Few details have emerged so far, but we know that exactly 40 units of the Centenario will be built, split evenly between coupes and roadsters. The price point of a whopping €2.2 million (roughly $2.45 million at today’s exchange rates) failed to deter prospective buyers: We hear that every single Lamborghini Centenario is spoken for.

The lucky owners can relish in the knowledge of driving a uniquely styled and supremely rare supercar, much in the fashion of the Reventón, the Veneno, and the Sesto Elemento previously released by Lamborghini. Its design will be highlighted by the fact that it will be shown in exposed carbon fiber. And given that this car is expected, in part, to pay homage to the Miura, we expect to see nothing less than an ultrapowerful V-12 engine, positioned exactly where it belongs: right behind the occupants.

You won’t be able to have one, but you can pay your respect to the Centenario at the Geneva auto show in less than two weeks. We’ll be there—and report with further details.

Lamborghini is playing the teasing game for the Aventador-based Centenario scheduled for a world premiere on Tuesday.

Just like Bugatti is doing with the Chiron, Lamborghini is also counting the days and hours left until its Geneva premiere. The company from Sant’Agata Bolognese will be celebrating 100 years since founder Ferruccio Elio Arturo Lamborghini was born which is why the new ultra-exclusive model has been appropriately named “Centenario.”

Although the car isn’t being shown at all in the attached teaser video, we already know how it will look like thanks to a series of leaked patent images. Based on the Aventador, the limited-run Centenario will be less crazy than the Veneno and chances are many people will consider this to be a good thing as the Veneno was perhaps exaggerated.

The car’s full name is apparently “Lamborghini Centenario LP 770-4”, so it is expected to have 770 PS (759 hp) and a four-wheel drive arrangement. Reports are indicating it will cover the sprint to 62 miles (100 kilometers) per hour in just 2.7 seconds and hit a top speed in excess of 217 mph (349 kph.)

Only 40 units are planned for production, with 20 coupes and 20 roadsters that have already been sold even though rumors indicate the coupe was priced at $2.38M.

Lamborghini will kick off its press conference in Geneva on March 1 at 10:05 UTC+1 when the Centenario will be unveiled.

The Geneva-bound Lamborghini Centenario has made its first appearance ahead of its official debut at the Swiss motoring show.

After patent images of the model surfaced on the internet a while back, the Italian car manufacturer finally offered a (quite revealing) sneak peek of the long-awaited, limited edition supercar.

Made to celebrate the 100th birthday of the company’s founder, Ferruccio Lamborghini, the Centenario will try to challenge our perception of “extreme”, being the latest outrageous raging bull in a long line of exclusive high-performance cars to come out of Sant'Agata Bolognese.

Based on the Aventador SV, the Centenario will be animated by the same 6.5-litre V12 engine, although its power is expected to rise to 770PS – an insignificant boost over the standard 750PS (740hp) and 689Nm (508 lb-ft) of torque, but enough to make it the most powerful Lambo ever created.

Even if it will be based on Lamborghini’s mid-engine flagship model, the Centenario comes with a completely overhauled design, tailor made to impress with its visceral aggressiveness. Expect a galore of carbon fiber bits and pieces too.

Celebrating Ferruccio Lamborghini's birth, the exclusive Centenario supercar has just made its debut in Geneva.

Despite that, the 770 HP supercar that'll be available in just 40 examples, 20 Coupes and 20 Roadsters at a €1.75 million (1.9$ equivalent) price tag has already been sold out.

Accelerating from naught to 100 km/h (62 mph) takes only 2.8 seconds, 0 to 300 km/h (186 mph) 23.5 seconds and the top speed exceeds 350 km/h (217 mph). Braking from 100 km/h to a standstill is achieved in just 30 meters!

The Centenario uses mococoque and body made from carbon fiber, tipping the scale at 1,520 kg, 55 kg less than the Aventador on which it is based. It measures 4,924 mm long and 1,143 m high, meaning 144 mm longer and 7 mm taller than the Sant'Agata Bolognese flagship.

The aerodynamics are carefully managed with inlets, large air scoops in the front bonnet, air scoops on the roof, extending rear wing, aggressive diffuser with three mid-mounted exhaust pipes and Y-shaped taillights. The machine rides on 20-/21-inch front/rear rims in forged and milled aluminum, wrapped in Pirelli PZero tires, developed specifically for the rear-wheel steering found on the Centenario.

The interior can be finished to each client's specification and it includes lightweight carbon fiber sports seats, new stitching on the length of the dashboard, steering wheel, sunvisors, rocker covers and new carbon fiber-made inner door panels, wrapped in Alcantara.

Sat-nav with a high-def 10.1-inch touchscreen is at the driver's disposal, along with internet, e-mail, social media, online apps and Apple CarPlay compatibility.

The Centenario continues on the same path started with the Reventon, which included the Sesto Elemento, Aventador J and Veneno.

For my particular aesthetic tastes, Lamborghini is the Gold Standard of automotive interiors. If I could get a RWD sedan with an interior like this, I'd probably never own another automobile, and spend more time in the car than I would in my home.

You might think the Centenario is unlike anything on the planet right now, but it can’t hide its Aventador-based roots.

By staying true to the big Lambo’s overall proportions and shape, the exclusive, limited edition raging bull adopts new visual style cues to differentiate itself from the stock model.

In recent years, the Italian car manufacturer has made a habit out of creating select supercars dedicated to a handful of people prepared to pay big money for a slice of exclusivity. The Centenario follows in the footsteps of the Reventon, Sesto Elemento, Aventador J and Veneno, and the fact that it’s road-legal is commendable, especially after analyzing its design lines.

Every inch of the car unravels new details as you look at it, and there are lines and elements on it that you won’t even find on concept cars. Take the back-end for example: governed by a dramatic and huge diffuser that extends all the way to the taillights, the Centenario looks like a futuristic racing-machine instead of a road-going supercar, and probably that’s the one of the reasons it cost $1.9 million.
