I learned there is no such thing as too busy to learn something new (especially when that thing helps keep you in shape and allows you to decompress from your daily life).

I mean all you really need is one or two hours a week to make it work. (could do with less if you just roll with a friend with instructional videos. You'll also most likely progress slower and not have anyone to point out what you're doing wrong but still a decent alternative)

Nah I've always been more into jiu-jitsu than wrestling (probably because there isn't much decent anything as far as wrestling goes here, no hs/college programs that I know of and no instructor of good renown/skill either). BJJ on the other half has a ton of good instructors trained under some of the best and most renown grapplers. The head instructor at the place I am going to train received his black belt from Fabio Holanda. They are also affiliated with Tristar and N1 Thai boxing (which is owned by one of Bob Carver's best students, now turned kruu). Bob Carver is(or was I haven't kept up) the president of the Muay Thai Canada Association and trains certain military units and law enforcement special units in hand to hand combat(he was tutelaged by Dan Inosanto).

Word Play bro and I know I prefer rolling than wrestling I haven't done ju jitsu in a long time though

Yes I'll give you the rice noodle😘

Wish there was decent wrestling around though, all we have is combat submission wrestling which is basically no-gi bjj with some wrestling (geared towards mma).

If you're wondering why I'm explaining everything in details it's so people that don't know much can know wth I'm talking about. hell maybe it'll even motivate someone to try it and that'd be a great thing.

I also doubt I'll be rolling with purple belts at first.

Also I've done bjj before (ok like ten year ago) but still roll from time to time, the gogoplata being my favorite move (I just can never finish it, lack of technique and the fact escaping it isn't so hard if you know what you're doing). I do have a mean guillotine and a decent rear-naked (obviously for my skill level, a purple belt should still have a better guillotine than I do).

I'm also very creative (very useful sometimes, others not so much, in fact, can be a detriment due to my basic skill level).
i was just playing.. i've never even hit it before i just like to say it cause it sounds cool

True story, but we don't really take breaks! According to every client, things need to be at the doorstep like 2 hours before order or supercharger kits need to be installed 4 hours before dropping the car off!

At our academy, the Kenpo we practice is actually Progressive Kenpo Systems. We incorporate knives, short sticks, archery, tactical shooting (AR, shotgun, and pistol), hostage situations, home protection, and disarming attackers.

To the original question: Gi's have come a long way in the last few years. If you stick with a known manufacturer you should be good. Don't cheap out on a no-name gi and make SURE it's an actual BJJ Gi. I would say a good budget is around $120. Look at Atama, Fuji, Gameness, and OTM for something reasonably priced. I had an Atama for my first Gi and it lasted over two years. I have at least one of each brand listed and I like them all. I like my Fuji the best right now. Don't get a lightweight gi. Those won't last long and are generally used only for competing.

On another note, if you are going to get back into the sport I would buy two. You need to show up with a clean gi every practice and having only one makes that difficult. Make sure you buy white as many schools don't allow beginners to wear colored uniforms.

The mark-up on Gi's is crazy. If you know someone with a wholesale account you can get them at 50% off retail.

Good luck.

Yeah I went with a Ronin Brand Insignia v2, it isn't a no-name brand though, just one of the smaller guys (based out of NYC), they are apparently very good and are becoming more well know (paid 119$ US on special for it). It's very basic as far as design and look but seems to be well made (heres a link for reference: http://www.fightersmarket.com/Ronin-...hit-p/k212.htm)

I'll probably get a second gi within a month or two, just a bit poor atm.

I know ronin. They are legit. 90% of all Gi's come from the same place anyway. They are either made in Pakistan or China these days.

pretty much, what larger brand would you compare Ronin to if you had to? (Just curious)

Traditional arts are actually pretty awesome if you find the right master/instructor. In fact, those arts/styles survived over the course of time and history simply due to the dominant nature of the art in that particular time. It has to be the best in order to survive. With that said, it's a bit tough these days to find someone willing to spend the time to teach principles, techniques, forms, and proper application (drills, pre-sparring, pre-rolling, sparring, rolling, competition, smokers, etc.).

Many gyms feel a bit manufactured and it's understandable. At the end of the day, it's a business in most cases and to survive, you gotta produce some results or else the gym has to shutdown. Lease is expensive and equipment isn't cheap. That's probably why most of these guys cater to the MMA crowd because people are looking for quick results.

Either way, BJJ is pretty fascinating and I really want to learn some day.
