Time for an update!
Strayed away from the plan a little bit as a couple of things popped up that I couldn't say no to. I have always thought the rear of the car needs a little something to make it more aggressive to match the front-end styling. I concluded pretty early on that I was going to do that by adding a duckbill spoiler, but which one was anyone's guess. Having so many different options certainly didn't help either. A few months ago, I finally decided the KM4SH (Kei Miura for Speed Hunters) spoiler was aggressive enough to give the rear end the look it desperately needs, but also nicely blends with the curves of the body. Kei Miura worked on the Rocket Bunny team and the KM4SH design is what he envisions as a toned down RB kit. I think he really nailed the design, and when I saw one of the guys I follow on Instagram parting out his car with this spoiler on it, I made sure to jump on it quickly. I should be receiving it later this week, and once it is on the car I will be sure to update with plenty of photos showing off all the angles. I have also been thinking of buying a dashcam for quite awhile now. The people where I live drive nice cars and are also idiots, so I have been looking for a way to cover my ass. I just know its a little too easy to blame the young driver behind the wheel of a sports car as the person at fault. I investigated quite a bit of dashcams, from the VanTrue R2 to the Z3, but I kept coming across reviews that sort of sketched me out as to the longevity/performance of these cams. I wasn't looking for anything top of the line, but I also want to be sure that the cam is always recording. I concluded that I wanted a camera from a big name retailer to help give me piece of mind. I decided on the BlackVue DR450-1ch. Didn't feel the need for a 2 channel just yet since if someone rear ends me, I don't think I would need a rear camera to prove fault. I'm hoping it does what I ask of it; simply to turn on when I'm driving and log any important events. This should be arriving late this week or early next, where again, I will be sure to upload pictures of the setup. I will also try to throw a review on here for anyone who is interested if I can remember. I anticipate being ready to purchase the Monogram/RS/86 headlights by mid to late October pending nothing big happens in my life demanding my money. I have been so antsy to get them as I think it totally changes the face of the car. Still can't believe I'm going to drop so much money on headlights, but the heart wants what the heart wants. Not to mention the additional light from a real HID setup is going to do wonders for my night driving. I will also probably pick up a foglight kit at the same time. Might as well do it all together. I will probably buy the stock kit so I can have all the stock wiring, but then change out the fog light housings for HID compatible ones. The front of my car will light up like a torch with HIDs + 6K LED Switchbacks + 6K HID foglights, but I'd rather have too much light than too little. I also don't have to have the foglights on all the time so that helps.

thanks for the update on your build. Where are you going to buy your monogram headlights btw? I know they're expensive but would to know where to buy em. Also a dash cam is also a good idea. I'm going to pick on up myself but i don't know if I want to hardwire it. I'd probably just buy a battery pack so it can run while the car is off. Keep us updated.

As for the dashcam, I have spent the weekend driving around with the BlackVue camera and so far I have been impressed! Pretty good image quality and it's definitely one of the cameras you can just set up and forget about! I did have to tweak the sensitivity settings since the springs are so stiff in the 86. Every bump would trigger an event recording haha. I just ran the wire up through the headliner, down the passenger A-pillar, and into the glove box 12V power. It looks really clean and I can't even see the camera behind my mirror. I will take some pictures once I get the spoiler mounted so I can just do it all at once. I have considered the battery pack add on but so far I haven't been too concerned with parking. Most people in my area are fairly respectful. Plus the BlackVue battery pack is something in the realm of $150 which just seems overpriced to me..

Still haven't had a chance to mount the spoiler just yet. I am a perfectionist and the paint didn't turn out how I wanted it so I am sanding down and restarting. I had to repaint due to some sun fading from the previous owner.
In other news, I made the decision to pull the trigger on the headlights as they are something I have wanted badly since I bought the car. They are set to arrive early Tuesday. Not sure how long it will take me to get them on as I will have to repin them as well as figure out how to run the wire for the DRL. Going to follow the directions in this thread if anyone is curious: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1012406 I want the LEDs to function the same way as the current DRLs do, coming on with the parking brake/lights and going off when my lights come on. Beyond exited to get these on the car! Also ordered the foglights at the same time since I figured I may as well do all the front end lighting at the same time. For anyone else interested in ordering these lights as well, the part numbers I used were: SU003-05149 (passenger)(was previously SU003-04630 but PN was updated) SU003-05150 (driver)(was previously SU003-04631 but PN was updated) PT413-18130 (foglights that come with housings, bezel, wiring, and trim piece for the interior to have the fog button next to the trunk release) Now I will have my hands full for awhile getting my spoiler, headlights and foglights all put on the car. Hopefully that satisfies the mod bug.... for now. Once this process is completed, my next step will be saving for RCE T2's with camber plates as well as some Whiteline endlinks. I'm thinking that once the car is lowered ~1-1.5" the aggressive stance will tie everything together and make me a happy camper. Anticipate being ready to get these sometime around January?

Lights arrived on Tuesday as expected and look oh-so beautiful! I have plans to install headlights, foglights and ducktail on Saturday. Expect pictures!
Been making the mistake of looking at FI a lot lately. This is bad since I'm not planning on boosting for another year or so to give myself time to get all the supporting mods in place. Started off thinking I wanted the Edelbrock. Then I saw the Harrop SC and started to sway that way. I thought I had convinced myself to go with a supercharger for linear power, but I love turbos and so long as I don't buy a massive turbo, I could be in boost by about 3K rpm anyway for the lower end torque.. Eyeing the AVO, FBM, and Ptuning kits for now. Just gotta remind myself that my wallet isn't ready for this just yet so I need to stop drooling over build threads/youtube videos/reviews.

Luckily I don't report to anyone just yet so I am allowed to blow all my money on my car and only have to explain myself to my poor wallet ![]() I have yet to get a tune. Came close to buying an OFT and still just might, but I have a hard time justifying it when I will have to get a tune once I'm boosted. So right now all the exhaust is for sound purposes and whatever slight gains they might provide without a tune. I still throw a CEL occasionally even with a catted JDL header (cat inefficiency) so I just go in with my OBDII reader and clear it whenever it pops up.

thank you for all the part numbers. I might order those headlights too rather than buying crappy winjets. Your build is exactly what I'm going for. I plan on doing a supercharger way way in the future.

I started off thinking I wanted a supercharger. To me, this car really just needs some more low-end torque. But recently my mind has totally swayed towards turbos since you can still get the torque with a smaller turbo but still get all the fun noises and excitement that comes with a turbo. All preferences.

Well as promised, today is Saturday and I got around to doing some things!
Headlights, fogs, and ducktail were all installed! The total process took me about 5 hours, with most of the time being eaten up by repinning the harnesses from the headlights. Most of the pictures aren't very good quality, as it turns out it's pretty hard to photograph lights to provide an accurate representation of what they look like. These lights are BRIGHT. Huge improvement over the halogen projector. Here are a couple pictures I took along the way: First time taking the bumper off! ![]() Holy crap, I actually pinned them correctly and they work! ![]() The only thing I am thinking about changing with this setup is how they are pinned. Currently, the DRL is on with parking lights and headlights, but there are no lights on automatically anymore when the parking brake is down. I think the LED strip is a little too bright to be running at night with the headlights, so I want to fix it so those come on with the parking brake released and go off when the headlights come on. Unless someone can propose an easier way to do this, I am anticipating having to pull the pin for the LED and run a wire to the resistor harness that used to power the original DRLs. That is more splicing and overall work than I am ready to do at the moment, so that will have to wait. Here are some photos of the finished product: Parking lights only: ![]() Headlights on: ![]() Headlights + Fogs: ![]() Frontal view: ![]() I forgot to take pictures of before and after, but I figured that wouldn't be too big of a deal since most of you know how crappy the light output is stock on the FRS. I was able to snag a comparison picture from my dashcam showing the difference with the fogs on. I played around a bit with the difference between no low beam vs with it but I guess my dashcam hadn't fully powered up at that time.. Headlights: ![]() Headlights with Fogs on: ![]() The fogs don't make a huge difference in visibility besides throwing more light right in front of the car and to the sides, perfect for foglights. I don't plan on putting white lights in the fogs since we actually get fog around here sometimes so it will be nice to have lights that are actually functional. Plus my switchbacks already make it look like I have my foglights on during normal driving. Still haven't decided yet if I will stick with the stock bulb or grab a PIAA/Nokya yellow bulb (cuz JDM yo!) That's all for today! Next update should be the coilover install if I am patient enough to wait to buy those. Have to resist the urge to pick up the OEM+ Audio Reference kit and the Jackson Racing Dual Radiator and Oil Cooler in the meantime..

wow very nice. The LED strip on the headlights look yellow to me rather than white but maybe just from the picture. Overall it looks much much better than the OEM chrome ones.

Again, sorry the photos are crappy. Tried to do my best to capture the overall look. All the pictures that showed the light as the actual white color were really washed out with lots of glare so they were pretty much unusable to display what I had accomplished!

if you don't mind, how much did you pay for the headlights plus fog lights? Trying to see which mods to buy first based on price and necessity which brighter headlights obviously are.

Total I paid just over $2600 with tax. It's an expensive set of mods for sure but it was definitely worth it. I have been wanting these lights since the day I bought the car and are such an improvement. I refused to be one of those people who ran HIDs in the stock projector housing.
