OHHHHH that could be bad then. It could come back when warm and that indeed could be a bearing issue.
Hopefully nothing major.

This is true... if oil is in operational temp or bearing spun horribly.

Anyways, on-topic.

If you think bearing is spun, do not, again DO NOT restart it again. For spun bearing, it won't bring up CEL. A lot ppl make a mistake by restarting the engine and make it worse. When bearing is spun and restarting the engine can cause valves to bend or worse, bend the piston rods.

Ya, I missed the fact he said that it sat for 45 minutes before the restart. I thought he meant he shut it off and started it right away again and the noise was gone.

TBH, even 45mins later won't do much difference, specially oil we have in our car (0w-20)... but it is winter, so it might cool down enough to get it thicken. IDK

Either way, we'll wait and see what the dealership gotta say about this.

Wish i waited, but after 3.5 hours of waiting only for the tow company to give me another excuse as to why it would be 30-60 more minutes, I decided to limp it home.

It was a 15 minute drive home and the sound came back towards the end of the drive.

I recorded it before shutting the car back off. I'll have it towed to the dealer tomorrow morning.

Btw, it's 60 degrees here in MD today so winter isn't helping the oil cool faster really.

How trashed is my relatively brand new motor?

well to be honest with that question...who cares? lol It's under warranty still so anything that is wrong can be pointed right back to the dealership especially if they just did the maintenance. sucks it is going to eat up your time but at least you have nothing to worry about and you should be back on the road shortly

link doesn't work btw but if it is spun bearing dealer should cover it no problem hopefully its not. Just spun one on my srt4 on a track day all the oil went to one side and starved out cylinder 4 I did a full rebuild because of it but you should have it covered

That doesn't sound like a bad rod bearing to me.

However, something is not right with your car's engine.

Maybe something that the engine is driving .....like the alternator or water pump or A/C compressor .....

At this moment, not sure how much damage you did while driving it. But sounded like it was getting worse... & it doesn't sound like knocking. There might be some kind of leak or loosen somewhere.

It's always cheaper to just replace the whole engine than rebuilding that engine. IF it's rod knock

Time to buy a built block so you can drive it at stock power levels safely

Honestly that does sound like a spun bearing at least very very similar. Possibly a torn mount? and it knocks on something but changing with rpm and only when warm I would rule that out. Possible collapsed lifter it sounds deeper than spun bearing as that is more of a tick but collapsed lifter is deeper kinda like that. I would find it weird that valvetrain would fail so soon.
