There are such things as "calculated risks" Look at it this way. Rather then have 25K tied up in a car which will continue to loose value and looking at how low interest rates are, you could certainly take that money and make money while still paying off the car. Granted I give you props to be able to do that. Very few normal people have the financial ability to do this. But remember debt is not a bad thing when used in the correct way which most people again can't do either so...

It's cool... I used to think that way as well. The feeling of knowing no one can come take my stuff away is worth it to me. If I lose my job, I still have a sweet car that no bank is coming for when I can't make a payment. I'm currently making car payments to myself so I can buy our next car in a few years. By then the wife will have completely trashed her car. She hits everything with our civic

I paid cash.

I'm 24 and I just graduated from college. Only debt I'm paying on is student loans.

That was my point but you might be surprised @ how many older people still rely on the rents for their toys. It is a third car for me so no big deal but I am impressed by the number of the younger folks here that have been able to make significant equity investments in their new vehicle.

I agree with you. I can't wait to get my FR-S paid off. I am making extra payments to shave 1 year off my loan.

18 years old with no credit history. Put $15,500 down, financed the remainder. Payments are low enough so I can pay extra and hopefully pay it off a couple of years early.
