They might simply require for car to be street legal. And that includes passing emission tests. I don't get "sadly" bit though. I certainly don't want for all cities to be full of smog and be glad about it.

Yep I spent a few years dealing with starting problems but finally got a chance to play with the cranking tables and now it starts first try all the time. I’m in Florida and the lowest I’ve cranked it since the change so far was 38F. Before the adjustments it took two starts once the temps dropped bellow 60F. |

Yes, of course. But only 15 % of what 98 would. I was wondering if that might be sufficient to pass emissions.

Speaking of bad gas mileage. I just calculated my MPG on a full tank and got 18.9mpg on E85. I mostly drive my car like I stole it so I’m sure I could do better but I’m curious what others are getting.

Is this the relevant clause?
Street Touring X Class: The "precat(s)" and primary catalytic converter may all be replaced by a single converter, provided the resultant configuration meets Federal emissions inspection standards at normal vehicle operating temperature." Disclaimer: I don't even live in the states. Just curious. Sent from my SM-G973F using Tapatalk |

considering a switch to make sure there's a reliable source of it nearby. There is only one station that carries it in my town. If I go on the road I carry 4 gallonsw in the truck. A great many stations that show it online don't really have it. Of course I carry the OFT in case I have to switch back. |

"Catalytic converters: Any catalytic converters are allowed, but must attach within 6” (152.4 mm) of the original unit. Multiple catalytic converters may be replaced by a single unit. The inlet of the single replacement converter may be located no further downstream than 6” (152.4 mm) along the piping flow path from the original exit of the final OE converter. The extents of an OE converter are defined by the expansion chamber in which the catalyst is contained, regardless of placement within larger exhaust sections. Replacement converters must have a minimum catalyst density of 100 cells per inch and minimum substrate length of 3” (76.2 mm)."

Sounds like the catted headers you were planning are allowable, (I'd confirm that in the tracking forum) a stated increase of 14 bhp at peak, add E85 for another 20. You won't know yourself! Don't waste your money on a cat back or axleback, they add 2-3 bhp at most. Something no one tells you about E85... It has a strange smell... Sent from my SM-G973F using Tapatalk |

Jumping on this thread for some additional info. I just found out there's a navy base near me that has E85, apparently 85%. Currently running JDL UEL Catted headers with full rest of exhaust, stage 2 OFT. I should probably get a Flex Fuel kit. I was reading on a past thread that there's a way to use 85 without the kit, involves something among the lines of running for about 2-3km at low RPM until the LIFT values increase to a certain degree, then stop the vehicle, load E85 Tune, and let the ECU learn the new tune slowly. Figured, while I still can, use my military ID and get gas whenever I need it. Any more additional info would be great.

How to run E85 on stock 86 BRZ FRS with OFT tune I have been doing this for over 3 years. Zero issues. Never going back unless I can't get it. Then I just flash back to 98. 5 minute job. If you want peace of mind, keep an eye on your ignition advance multiplier. If it drops below 1 it means it's detecting knock. (It won't) Sent from my SM-G973F using Tapatalk |
