Even fat Americans like me love their MT

But different strokes for different folks, glad the twins have such a nice AT for those that prefer it or spend a lot of time in bumper to bumper traffic, I do some of the time too, but am used to doing it on a motorcycle which is much more uncomfortable so no biggie while chillin in the comfy BRZ working the clutch and MT.

Automatics/Automated Manuals in high performance vehicles make the vehicle exactly that; high performance. You will never shift gears as fast. Think about f1 drivers?

With the proportion of new drivers learning in automatics, demand for manual is and will eventually fade out. Other than yourself, think about why most people buy cars; utility, convenience etc.

I come frm a simular background. I grew tired of my DSG GTI and im loving the MT feel in the 86. Maybe the GTI didnt have enough power to make it fun with the DSG.

Now I did drive a SMG M3 and OMG! That is one hell of a automated manual. Now that car id get SMG > 6 speed.

What needs to be explained? I never said that there aren't great automatic transmissions out there. Quite the opposite in fact.

However, if you would like an explanation I'd be happy to provide one. F1 cars use a type of automated manual gearbox, not your daddy's old slushbox. NHRA has been using auto's for ages. They're great because you can program them to shift at an exact rpm each and every time.

And 98% of people who are buying a vehicle specifically for performance will choose the manual option (if it's available, and if they're able to drive a manual ). This is largely because traditionally manual=performance, but also because up until most recently automatic=low performance.

One last thing, I bought this car to have fun driving it. And while I never intended to buy the AT version, I did drive it and it was good. But the manual was great. A whole lot more fun.

I traded in my automatic recently. Had it for a month. Loved it but I told myself I wanted a manual (actually learned on this car last week) if I ever got something sporty. Long story short I went back and got another one lol. Paid 500 extra for a down payment and that was it. Guess I kinda lucked out on that one. Plus the cars are in such high demand still that dealerships will be happy to grab them up.

No a loss of $500. And honestly I only did that to keep my payments where they were originally at. Like I said, my situation was probably a lucky one. Plus my dealership has some pretty good folks operating it lol. I know cars depreciate as soon as they leave the lot. But these cars are still a high demand that there's a chance of trading it in without taking a huge hit.

I've got an SST equipped Evo X, but I'll be looking for a MT FR-S once I sell it. I enjoy driving a stick far more, even though the SST is technically superior and absolutely faster than any human being could be. It's about the level of driver engagement to me, SST or other automatics just don't give you that.

Manual Transmissions are dying but thats mostly because they don't suit needs of high performance vehicles as they use to. Though they will always be around, don't let anyone tell you other wise.[/QUOTE]
Where did you read this ?? Ive never heard of this
