Hey everyone it happened again! I tried to put it into reverse and put a fair amount of pressure but it didn't go into gear...but then i tried the suggesting of shifting into second and then shifting into reverse and it worked!
Thanks again guys!!!

Glad to hear it!

Next time it happens, avoid using extra pressure; that won't help anything. Wiggling the shifter might in some cases help, but when you feel resistance the best thing to do is just go right to the clutch in/out or 2nd gear technique. After a while you'll do it without even thinking about it

My 04 STi would do this all the time. I'm sure someone will roll in here and give you a full technical reasoning with whats causing it.
this is the correct procedure!

The long and short of it is that reverse gear is usually built differently than the forward gears. It is not always meshed like the forward gears and usually has no synchro. So if the shaft happens to stop in a position where the reverse gear won't mesh then you can't put the car in gear. Just bump the car forward the tiniest bit and you'll be good to go ( if this is indeed the problem ). I have experienced this with every manual I have ever had.
generally this is NOT necessary! usually throwing the clutch, and "rowing" between the different gears will allow reverse to drop in!

Going to try rowing next time, I guess I found something that worked and just stuck with it.

Same issue

I just got my car this weekend and with ~230kms I had the same issue with reverse today. I couldn't get it to go this morning - temperature outside was about -1C and luckily I could move forward out of my driveway.

Same thing happened later on this afternoon too.

I tired the 2nd gear suggestion and eventually it went into reverse.

Scary needless to say at day 4 of a new car you've waited over 4 months for! I'm hoping it's just a break in period issue.

Just park it tail end first that way you don't have to put in reverse the next day

I've had the same issue with going into Reverse gear.

What I do is either let the car roll a little bit, then stop and try again (I don't know if this actually accomplishes anything but it seems to work sometimes) - or put it into second gear then into reverse like people in this thread recommended.

It does feel like I have to shove it into reverse with some extra force sometimes, but it doesn't feel like it is a damaging amount.
