Hmmm....let us see what we have going on and we'll report back! AMP is an awesome track for those that have not driven it yet!

You should be fine running the car stock but depending on your driving style you may find the stock brake pads and fluid to be worthless on track. I'd recommend a set of StopTech Street Performance pads. They are cheap, quiet and put up with mild-mannered, cool weather track duty just fine and they have wayyy better bite than the OEM pads. I ran them my first time at AMP last December and didn't have any issues though I probably got close to boiling the stock brake fluid. I would step up to a higher MOT street/track hybrid pad like the Project Mu HC+800 and some high temp brake fluid like Millers 300+ for anything other than mild-mannered track driving in cool weather.

I'm having an internal conflict right now. I've really wanted to get out there in the past on my bike, but I'm not 100% on taking the FR-S since it is my only car. I've never raced before, I guess go karts is as close as I've gotten, so obviously I'd go in the novice group if I come. My car is stock as far as performance upgrades go.

If something happened to my bike during a race I really wouldn't care since I've already spilled it (loose gravel in a turn) and compared to a car it's cheap, but my car....

Would it be possible to come up and watch and possibly hop in a passenger seat for a lap/race?
Also, would I have to buy an auto helmet or are motorcycle helmets acceptable?

I've seen a couple people in various posts recommending doing autocross events to really figure out your car before going on the track so I'd be a bit nervous to go out on the track myself. That, and I don't want to slow people down since there's no passing (at least that's how motorcycle track days work with the novice group).

Pretty sure I'll be committing to do this. Supernoob though, any pointers on prep will be appreciated.

Also, haven't made it out to any Tuesday night meets because Tuesday nights are already occupied. Any other meet times anyone knows about?

We should weekend meet. Tuesdays are usually bad for me except tomorrow. I work 48 on and 48 off.

This is not a race and racing will not be allowed in any form. It's a fun, educational event that allows drivers of all skill levels to drive on a track at high speeds with an instructor if you're a novice, and if you're a higher skill level then you can usually drive solo with expanded passing zones. All groups will only pass other cars in their respective passing zones after receiving a point-by from the car ahead.

That's why you purchase HPDE Insurance to cover all damage to your car in the paddock and on track. I recommend Lockton Motorsports.

@firl21 should consult with them to ensure they will offer coverage for this event, being a new club and all.

Fully insuring your car for a 1 day event shouldn't cost more than $150

AMP features a full F1 style lighting system which can alert all drivers on track dynamically. If you're slower than the car's approaching you, you'll know. The lights will flash blue at you to let you know that there's faster cars behind you so you can get off-line and give them a point-by and let them proceed with passing you. When everyone drives according to those rules especially with skill-based run groups as small as they will be for this event, traffic will be a non-issue and everyone can enjoy their track time.

Forgot to answer this one. You'll likely need a Snell SA 2005 or newer approved for automotive use helmet. A motorcycle helmet won't suffice. I don't know why and it doesn't make sense. You'd think a motorcycle helmet would offer the most protection of any, but that's the way it is.

Discovery Parts are on site there and offer a wide range of helmets and safety accessories for sale.

I'm not sure but there may be some loaner helmets there too.

@firl21 could you edit your first post for more details on how this is all working. This is how I think it works. It looks like you pay 286 dollars to the kickstarter fund for a spot in the HPDE. If 10,000 dollars (~35 people) is not raised by September 21st, the track day will not happen and we will get our money back.

Also, will there be any loaner helmets or helmets for rent? I only have a motorcycle helmet at this time.
