I have to run class A and it's not fun.

Red Star normally has car days on Wednesdays twice a month, and sometimes there are charity or car club days that you can get into. Give Youlanda a call at RSR and ask her to put you on their SMS notification list. Also, subscribe to Red Star's Facebook page for updates. It's a wonderful, technical, and very safe track for cars.

And yeah, of course Midvaal's still bumpy, but it's a lot better than it was a few years ago. At least there are no potholes like there used to be

I love Midvaal because I enjoy mixing it with the racecars which grows one's experience and skills in leaps and bounds. Still my favourite track.

Here's what Midvaal looks like now (August). Ignore the oil and cement mess. It's very abnormal to have 3 racecars (a Porsche 928, VW Fox and a Supra) empty their sumps on the track in one day - phew! They used 16 pockets of cement to get the track sort of working again...

I love how they still drove around the racing line for most of the lap... very considerate.
I always enjoyed the layour of Midvaal... just needs re-surfacing. (I spent many days there on the bike practicing for the races... it eventually got so bad with hard race suspension that I was literally getting bounced out of the seat in places).

Redstar would be fun in an 86!
Enough of the back to upgrades

LOL no but it would probably work out cheaper in the long run.

If I had to spend it on the 86 then:
-RGM Supercharger. May not give the biggest performance upgrade but they've got the experience and backup to support and stand by their conversion.
-BRZ zorst
-Powerbrake GT disks + Endless pads + braided lines & fluid
-Diff & gearbox mount inserts

If there is change left then some wheels and Bridgestone RE002 tyres, I'd stick to 17".

Would be cool to see companies like RACE! Build a few turbo Rocket bunny 86's in SA
I wonder what it will work out too with shipping, rather tempting but we live in SA. Duties will screw us over and we have to worry about it getting damaged during transportation.

Very much so. If you're interested, here's what RSR looks like through my 86's windscreen.
This was the lap which got me 9th overall in Leg 5 of the Michelin Cup in July.

Nice - if you ever need a second driver I'd be interested.
I was handy on a bike... not sure how that translated when there is a circle in front of you and no knee scrapping hahaha.

Exactly my problem with quite a few tasty bits the guys overseas get... quotes on things like headers were $400 to ship... not liking the idea of adding almost R5k to the price of my goods.

The good news is that many car parts don't attract import duties... not sure abut body kits though. I know you can import exhausts and superchargers without import duties (otherwise you'd have to add yet another 20/30%). I am not sure about VAT though... I do think you'd have to pay it meaning +14% already!

Who advised you dont pay duties on car parts? I'd like to show that to customs as they nail 20% on all car parts that I've noticed, then a further amount for VAT.

Boost for sure. It's addictingly fun.

If there was money remaining after that, maybe some wheels.

Let's assume You had R100,000 to spend on aftermarket bits what would you buy? (About $7400 or so at today's exchange rates).

In no particular order here are some of things I'd love;
Exhaust (headers first, then the rest)
Edelbrock SC
Brakes (maybe just rotors etc, maybe bbk)
Wheels (plenty nice 18" ones out there) + tyres of course.
Front splitter - looks ace
Valenti tail lights (already have these)
Carbon fiber drive shaft
Pulley kit (eg Perrin)
Oil cooler

Problem is this wish list is way more than my imaginary budget ;-)
My list is:
Headers
Exhaust - Done
Tune with E50 map for track days.
Powerbrake upgrade
Stainless steel brake lines
Brake fluid upgrade - Done

Extra set light weight wheels and sticky tyres for track days
TRD shocks and springs

I'll keep the change to fund the turbo upgrade after i've finished paying off the car.
