I decided to take the plunge and start saving for an NA1 NSX. Right around the same time I estimate my realistic affordability, the Gen 2 86 should be making headway, and prices come down on Gen 1 86's. Kinda hoping the NSX is all it's cracked up to be, but if it's not, I doubt I'll have trouble selling it.

I sure wanted an NSX. Almost bought one. They do show their age now. Need lots of updates to look good now.

Different class/league of car, plus the upkeep as others have said. Awesome car though, no doubt about it. I guess it depends on what you are after, a newer cheaper sports car with a warranty or an older semi-exotic.

You'd have to elaborate on what needs updating. Without question, I agree a reconditioning may be necessary more than an update. Rubber hoses/exhaust hangers don't last forever. The gas pedal is my idea of music though, so I'm fine leaving the cassette player head unit alone. I think the car looks fairly timeless, even with the flip up headlights (I think it looks better than the 2002+ MY).
My biggest interest in this car is the resale value. It seems like, once you get past the tall initial entry price, maintenance is pretty straight forward, drive it for a bit, enjoy it, then sell it for close to the same price you bought it at. Historically, it gives the illusion that it costs nothing but fuel, insurance, and polymer car wax to play with an exotic car. Then, sell it when it's time to enjoy something else. This thing is without question a bucket list item. |

It's funny, I would mod an NSX in a lot of the same ways I would my BRZ-- Volks/Rays, coilovers, exhaust, aero...

NSX are a lot more expensive, at least in Canada, a decent NA1 is 70-90k.
