Dadhawk, I am really into tube gear; is this a hobby for you also? It has the necessary attributes of any great hobby: it's expensive, it's esoteric and it's potentially lethal.






There's a cute sight gag in the movie "I, Robot". At one point, Sonny (the smart robot) flips over a sheet of paper to draw a picture of his dream on the back. The paper is a circuit on USR letterhead. The joke is that the circuit itself is a schematic for a vacuum tube voltage regulator.

Not really a hobby of mine, but having grown up with tube gear, I certainly appreciate it, and have replaced my share of tubes in my time. I still remember as a kid going to the hardware store with my parents/grandparents, failed tube in hand and using the tube tester to figure out which one to replace!
