Don't say shit. They could be fishing for unhappy people to dump.

edit: Haha... just read Tcoat's and cjd's posts. I stand by mine.

Ny one plant with and average age of 50 has a 4% absenteeism rate the other with an average age of 30 is at 20%. When we do attendance counselling it very quickly becomes clear that the young guys feel that they are entitled to come to work when they want and not when they don't. It costs us millions a year and that is the sort of shit that gets business sent offshore.
Funny how I've observed the exact opposite from working in large enterprise corporate office environment. The older folks don't give two shits about the company since they know all too well it will get outsourced anyway, probably got burned before one too many times. Us younger folks always think we can change the place for the better and would never give up the quality but also result in getting pwn3d eventually.

I know the issue stopping it actually. Probably management not wanting to fight with another dept management and start crap. Just kinda lame that we presented the idea and were told to complete the project wasting a bunch of time on it since it's ready to be released. They easily could have told us to hold up and see if they could eliminate the roadblock. Maybe that would have hurt too many feelings? Granted, the training itself was one of the better ones I have been to so I am happy to have been a part of it either way. Also probably didnt help that 3/4 of our managers are more the rah-rah, energy, build you up type so probably just hyped it more then needed getting expectations higher then they should have been. We went in expecting to not have it implemented and were ok with that.

The union bit is totally on point for us. They have way too much power around here (this is the one who represent my job classifiction but I am not part of it myself). Some have actually talked about decertifying them before the next contract negotiation.

And yeah, while time off in my dept doesnt affect others as much (we have 3 employees at each site. As long as 2 are there you don't even notice) it is a major problem at our main office in other dept. And that is with all the redundancy of civil service positions built in. I personally don't use much but will be using more since our new contract puts stricter caps on vacay/sick accumulation and I don't feel like wasting it once I start getting close to the caps/experiations. Calling in all the time is also very different from scheduled vacations imo.

Maybe my post was just written too whiny. All this millenial talk is affecting my brain

Yep, it must be nice for you on the other side(retirement)...

Do you get bored?

Or just do what you please, lots of drives and touring...?

Oh, and grandkids.

Edit...

Looks like you fell asleep again...

I like this. Guess I'll just put on my happy face and go along with things until I move outta the dept or new company.

At least till I had enough and put in 2 weeks notice!

Anyways, turned 25 today.

Had a good time pounding back beers with a couple of the local car buds. Got some insight about a plethora of subjects since they are a bit older than me.

The guys posted with sweeping statements and I countered with them. Actual experiences will vary.

I just hope that's even an option for me. I know I won't be able to live where I do now...

I have an idea how millennials feel, because they're coming in after it's obvious companies are all about the bottom line at the top, no care for the people. I've watched that change happen, though still only approaching the theoretical halfway point in a career to retirement. They're smart about it though, good at making it about themselves.
