didn't we all know it was a photoshop from the start? the question is, how much is the photoshop based on insider info from toyota staff. but i do highly doubt they had any credible sources for this article. really the only new info is that the wheels will be 16s or 17s. couldn't we have guessed that ourselves?

0-100 km/hr times vary so much from source to source that using them to estimate weight based on power is pointless. The FT86 is obviously not going to weigh 3810 pounds.
The mag's 1300 kg (2866 pounds) is disconcerting as I'm hoping for closer to 2700 pounds, but the * probably means it's a guess. |

This....I heard alot of insider info from other industry insiders before it released and reported and so far, everything has been accurate. Best car is like the weekly world news of the auto industry here so who knows how reliable their info is but we'll know soon enough.

2800 should not be difficult to beat... My current DD is a 1996 RAV4 4 door 5 speed. The 4 speed auto 4 door has a curb weight of 2844 lbs. Thats AWD with a heavy cast iron block 3SFE. Suby boxers are aluminum blocks arent they? Theres an easy 200-300 lbs difference in engine blocks alone. I forget where I found it, but I believe the 3SFE was pushing close to the 500 lb mark. EJ20 from the mid 90's was around 200-250 lbs iirc. Mind you these weights are likely a stripped block. Granted my DD is older so fewer safety features, but in doing away with the transfer case, front axles, and cast iron block for an aluminum one I don't think that the safety features can bring up that much difference in weight. As far as I know, concrete blocks are not an official safety feature.
Sometime soon I'll get a photoshop comparison between the 86 and the RAV4, I figure it'll be easy to imagine since the RAVs are almost everywhere and the 96-00 are all very similar in exterior dimensions.wheelbase / length / width / height FT86 101.18 inches / 163.78 inches / 69.27 inches / 48.19 inches RAV4 94.9 inches / 162.0 inches / 66.7 inches / 65.4 inches |

how can you say that with such confidence when subarus, various hondas, toyotas and mazdas have all gained 500-600 lbs compared to similar models in the 90s? today the civic is a 3000 lb car. the impreza weighs 600 lbs more than it did in the 90s. i don't know how safety features add this much weight either but the numbers don't lie, it's an industry wide trend.

yeah theres no need for a 12.2 surround sound system in this car. Which seems to be a popular set up in modern automobiles.
For me, 2 speakers and a CD player with a direct input line is all I need in terms of audio. The speakers don't have to be amazing, the music already is :P There is absolutely no reason to have 8 - 12 way adjustable electric seats, that would be way to much for this car. If they have leather as an option, heat would be nice but thats about it for "electric" and "seats". Size wise, enough room for a 6'5" driver should be max size lol, and a small boot -- people shouldn't be planning on using this to carry much. I guess there isn't much that can be done about the airbag number, thats all "mandatory" equipment now. what else can go that won't be necessary? |
