Maybe i'm too used to some of the other cars we work on with absolutely no space anywhere...but IMO these cars have quite a bit of room to work with. I mean what car out there with modern amenities is there that you can bolt on an aftermarket turbo setup, toss in a couple factory fit cooling parts and track the shit out of it (especially in the middle of the desert here on the west coast.)?

I agree radiant heat is the issue 100%. Always has been when you're talking tubular stainless steel manifiolds, downpipes etc. We've found on other platforms going to a smaller diameter material for the manifolds than what is commonly used helped decrease this. The overall size of the manifold ends up quite a bit smaller and allows everything to tuck tighter to the engine and away from the cooling parts.

This is a quick picture of the difference between the 2...

These cars also have a ton of room to move the radiator forward.

If the radiator was brought to a 90 degree angle to the ground it could easily go forward 2-3" towards the intercooler. Of course it would require custom fabrication, but this is with retaining the factory bumper support...now lets talk going to something tubular

Looking at this picture...

The oil cooler is mounted 100% in front of the oem bumper support. There is also 1-2" of space between the FMIC and oil cooler. All this fits behind a factory bumper with the grill intact. What this means is with a custom bumper beam fabricated you would essentially move the intercooler forward another 2-3" to where the oil cooler is. (there are other locates to mount oil cooler.) If you did this that 2-3" inches you could move the radiator now becomes 4-6"...That is a ton of space in regards to combating radiant heat.

Either way talk is cheap...I guess i'll just have to get going on my car

Already done, as well as a heat shield.

I came to the same conclusion, and ended up doing the same thing as you!

The radiator can be moved forward by maybe 1 inch on top, and 1.5'' to 2'' on bottom by simply drilling two holes for the lower mounting posts and using new upper mounting tabs. This is probably Juuuust enough, it seems to be enough on my car, but even more clearance is better.

With this extra clearance there's enough room to put some heat shielding between the DP and fans at the closest points as well.

With some fab work, as you've said, the radiator can move forward a LOT.

On top of moving the radiator, I installed the Drift Armor crash bar (great product, perfect fit and inexpensive) and also cut holes in my front bumper, which lets a LOT more air in. I modded my skidplate by cutting an opening and installed "trip strips" to help pull hot air out.

Next, I'll be (re)fitting the air dams around the radiator to focus air through the radiator. I also plan to install extra wrap/insulation around the hot parts where room allows.

This may be enough, if it isn't I'll be installing a vented hood, and I really feel at that point the car should be trackable without overheating.

In your bottom pic, it shows the space between the top of the radiator and the frame. Do you plan to install some air dams there or are you leaving that alone? I figure a LOT of air is blowing up and over the radiator (but my AC works GREAT!).

Yes and if you saw my previous video you'd notice the same exact car was left me in the dust on straightaway when I was stock power
