Garage
Picked up a set of +45 17x9s.
Stock brakes
Stock suspension

I will be buying coilovers and LCAs
I wish to run max -0.5 camber. I want to stay in spec

What do you suggest I run for tires with a mild 1.5 inch drop so I do not rub at all?

I'm running 17x9 +35 offset with 245/40/17 Michelin Pilot super sport on my 2015 brz with no rubbing issues at all.

Fitment is good but I need to lower it now. Wheel gap is killing me inside

Mine were touching the spring perch on eibach pro springs.

Since I went with coilovers I have 0 need for any spacers, however I am running a 3mm spacer in the rear just because I like the look.

Wow, your car is beautiful! Very tastefully put together.

BTW what did you use for center caps?

You can certainly buy tires in those sizes, but 245/40 is the size closest to the OEM rolling diameter. Changing tire size changes gearing, and both 215/40 and 225/40 would be smaller than stock, lowering (I believe) your gear ratio.

End result is the car would accelerate quicker, but at the expense of higher RPMs for any given speed and selected gear, and a lower overall top speed.

Say you're crushing at 2k rpm in 6th at 55 mph. With a smaller tire, 6th gear 55 mph may be 2300 rpm instead. Just an example, I pulled the numbers out of the air.

I might be wrong, but IIRC only 275/35 is equal to stock 215/45. 245/40R17 is +0.4% diameter.
But as another stock size for lower trims of toyobarus at some markets with 16" of 205/55R16 differs from stock 17" tire circumference of +1.22%, imho such slight difference isn't THAT important. Even more so that some willingly install different gearing ratio FD to enhance acceleration on these cars.

-2% 225/40R17 = 24.1x8.9R17
-1.2% 205/45R17 = 24.3x8.1R17 +
-0.8% 235/40R17 = 24.4x9.3R17
275/35R17 = 24.6x10.8R17 215/45R17 = 24.6X8.46R17 Diameter = 24.6" Width = 8.46" Wheel = 17" Sidewall = 3.81" Circumference = 77.3" Revs/Mile = 819.7
+0.4% 245/40R17 = 24.7x9.7R17
+1.6% 225/45R17 = 25x8.9R17
+2% 205/50R17 = 25.1x8.1R17

205/55R16 = 24.9X8.07R16 Diameter = 24.9" Width = 8.07" Wheel = 16" Sidewall = 4.44" Circumference = 78.1" Revs/Mile = 811.1

I wouldn't go for too wide for different reasons though, like not wishing to change character of handling while still not forced induction power levels, not requiring to invest much in suspension, cheaper tires, no need to buy wide rims, not having extra rotational unsprung weight added from those wide rims & wide tires, and in such light 215 or 225 looks more reasonable then 245 or even wider ones.

Offset is how far wheel hub is in mm from centerline of wheel. Bigger - hub is further from center = wheel is more sunked in arches. Smaller - closer to centerline = wheel more pokes out.

Thanks, I have since sold the car - I was turboed too =]

2" hvac knock out seals then I plastidipped them. Make sure you bend the prongs out slightly and wrap them in a few layers of tape so they don't scratch your hub on the wheels.

For those who are on coilovers, how much more clearance do you guys end up having between the wheel and the coilover? I know it varies between coilovers but I just want to get an estimate on how much.

On tarmac 2s dropped ~1 inch, enough to run -2.5 degrees of camber without a problem using camber bolts.
