i have one I love, that I built almost 30 years ago. I think the plans were in Wood magazine but now sure. Basically it's 3 cabinet boxes built from 3/4 plywood, with a 3/4" plywood with a 2x2 frame around it. There is a 1/4" plywood top on the 3/4" plywood that is screwed in and replaceable.

Here's mine. Made this with my Dad when I moved into my current house. Could have sworn we had a garage thread I posted in already, but I can't find it lol.

That’ll be my winter project when semester ends. I should probably get a table saw. One capable of cutting a 4x4.

Really you want both. Cross cutting a 4x4 on a table saw is going to require either one hell of a miter fence or a sled to get a good straight cut unless the 4x4 is already short.

I have a Sears table saw I purchased in 1984. It needs a tune-up but is old reliable. I have a Bosch miter saw that is also invaluable. On top of that, I have a Shopsmith I purchased off Craiglist for $300 several years ago. It makes a great lathe, heavy duty drill press and boring machine. I have the jigsaw attachment for it that works well when I need one. The table saw function is OK, but a dedicated table saw is much better in my opinion. If I had room for only one tool though I would go with the Shopsmith.

Put a new faucet in the laundry room. Of course had to replace the valves below. Our hard well water kills them.

I’ve been wrestling an idea in my head today. What do I do with my garage? Is it utilitarian storage for all my wife’s shit? Do I have the capacity to work on fixing or making something? Am I really going to utilize tooling enough to warrant not having room for much else? Or do I not need to explain myself to anyone and get a full suite of machines?

if you haven't built stuff before, why now?
in my experience, people that build stuff don't just outright go buy everything all at once, they tend to grow their tooling as needed/allowed. the people that just outright buy everything are the one's that are great garage sale buys later! but there's really nothing saying that you need to take over the entire garage with tools either.. outside of my welder, and my 64" metal band saw, all my garage tools fit in 1 tool box. overall less than a 24" deep 1-car-wide portion of my garage.
