Meh I have to dress the same and I am in an office. Other than when I walk the floor pants are optional.

I got smoked yesterday because eBay didn't notify me I was outbid... I should have checked the auction before it closed but... Yeah I wasn't happy

That's why I always just put in the highest amount I'm willing to pay, and let it play out. I'm OK getting outbid by $1 if its reached my max bid.

That is my theory as well. Mind you by starting with my highest acceptable bid I also realize I could be artificially pushing the price up since all of a sudden you are bidding against somebody else's highest acceptable bid.

The wife is the total opposite and will sit and raise her bid $1 above the highest right up to the last second. She is the very embodiment of the EBay sniper and is very good at it. I am sure she is hated worldwide for her last microsecond bids but she gets way better prices than I do with my set it and forget it method.

Yea, although technically you aren't pushing it up artificially if someone else has already put in a higher top bid than you, you are just getting to the true answer faster.

You might force a sniper to show their cards a little in advance, but not sure it really drives up the price by a large percentage.

That said, I do tend to not bid until the last day of an auction so I can see where the price is going, I guess I'm a hybrid bidder.

DAMNIT my logic has been flawed all these years! Of course it isn't going to push it up since the other has already put a max in. Doesn't matter if early or late that high bid is still there. I have no clue how that never clicked in before. I guess she simply lucks out and goes for stuff where there is no hidden large bid.
I have mostly given up on bids anymore anyway and just click on items that are Buy It Now unless that simply isn't an option.

If everyone does the small incremental bids your wife's method works. Only takes one person with a high max bid to shut everyone down though. I don't have the patience for auctions so I usually use "but it now"

esnipe.com. Have them bid for you 3-4 seconds before the auction is over and you either win or not. One of the benefits is you don't have the option of getting in a bidding war, you put in your max bid and let it do it's thing.
