Hold up a second. You DON'T have the same problem as us. This thread is for people who DO have a CEL and rough idle.
You don't. Go to a Dealer and let them examine YOUR car before you have worse problems. You have a WARRANTY.... Use it!

Well update on my CEL situation. Initially the Puente Hills mechs told me it was a "hard code" for a stability control issue. Apparently that was not the case, the code that was stored was a P0512 a starter circuit error. Pretty much told me it must of happened cause someone previously held in the push start button too long several times and caused that code to pop up on me. Might be true, who knows. I did get the car with 100 miles of "test drive" miles. What can you do about that? Nothing. Anyways well that closes my case. Not CEL code since that time. So I must say I'm rather happy at the end.

I am having the same "issue" and smell. It seems to be coming from the driver side of the engine. I have about 2600 miles on my car.

I got the CEL 5 miles of the dealer lot, the 5k miles later the SLP light, finally the recall letter. Took it in, and the dealer replaced the ECU, now the throttle seems not as responsive almost a lag as i revs even in neutral the new ECU seems to have less timing advance. Anyone else notice this ?

I have NOT gotten the CEL light but I HAVE noticed this on my car, along with a slight idle wander. It was something I didn't notice on the BRZ I rode/drove back in August. My car had a much later build date I think (bought it this month straight off the boat/truck). I am convinced something changed in the factory ECU calibration. It's not a big deal in general, but the tendency is very annoying in city traffic.

Im number 9 on the list. Im up to 21,000 miles now. Still have a rough idle and surging especially when the ac is on. My car has been considered a lemon by toyota not only for this issue. So hopefully the next one wont have the cel as well as the other issues.

Let us know, if not in this thread then in a separate one, how the replacement of the car goes. I'd like to know about the process involved and whether you were treated well by the mfr. and the dealer. Good luck.

took it in monday got it back today with a nice crease and a chip of paint missing down to metal that was NOT there when I dropped it off. I'm now waiting on parts for other minor crap and didn't even address the burning smell. Just waiting for my cel to come back and make my day. LIVID

Have you checked the skid plate underneath the engine? Someone stated that the skid plate sits too close to the engine and that there's a little opening in the plate, where debris gets in and just sits there and burns, which then, releases a smell into the cabin of the vehicle.

Mine seems to have a bit of a miss on initial start up. It goes away after a few minutes. I described it as a bit of a hiccup but my dad informed me it's definitely a miss.

2013 BRZ

typeray12, BRZ, 300 Miles, 6029XX, In shop for 3 days, CA U.S.
Drove it home from the dealer, VSC and CEL came on along with rough idle. Took it right back to Subaru of Ontario.

This is my second Subaru to cause me problems. First one was my STi with steering rack whining noise that developed right after I bought it.
