Because he's fast.
And on the power course, he had more power. |

Regardless, he really dominated on the east course... which was arguably less friendly to cars with power. |

It wasn't less friendly to cars with power. It had a really tight right hander right before a place where you could open it up. He just drove better than everyone else in a well prepped car.
This issue has existed for many years going back to the WRX in STX. It's almost impossible to police and for many years everyone has relied on the honor system that those in ST with boost are running maps not directly altering the boost tables. The only thing that can really be done is to put a rule in where someone has to have the ability to show their boost table is unaltered from the factory tune. If you are running some proprietary tune where you can't see the tables on the ECU as it sits, well you can't run that tune then. |

So onto legality questions, what are your thoughts on the JR radiator with the integrated oil cooler?
Radiators and oil coolers are legal, but in the radiator rule there is an item around the installation of the radiator not serving any other purpose. The specific example is providing an air passage for an intake. In this case, the installation itself is not serving any other purpose. The radiator portion meets all of the other requirements. This is for track use, not really necessary in STX but it would be nice to know if it's legal or not. |

Actually, my understanding is that UD/BD is a unique allowance to SP (and by extension, SM). Prepared has no such allowance; however, at that level most of the stuff you'd actually care to UD/BD is open to modification anyway.

I think the radiator+oil cooler falls afoul of that rule formally, though with the allowance for oil coolers it's likely within the spirit of allowable modifications.
Have to reread the UD/BD rules. |

So, anyone get a 2017 twin yet?
![]() I just test drove a '17 BRZ limited tonight. Car is a lot nicer on the inside compared to my FRS. Wondering if it would be any different in STX trim than the current/older twins...

I am vehemently against steering wheel controls.

I plan on test driving a 17 but have no plans to purchase a new car.
It's going to be a better STX car than the current model, but I don't think it'll be leaps and bounds better. It will likely end up making more power and the gearing will help on some courses, like the West Nats course. I think the work they have done to the valvetrain/heads since 2013 will allow revving it to 8K reliably. I wrote a letter on the JR radiator, see what the STAC says.
