A fire Monday morning is believed to have totally destroyed a Hutchinson house along the Crow River at 1318 Delaware St. N.W., but fortunately there were no injuries.
The fire, called in at about 9:47 a.m., initially started in the area of the garage on the west end of the home listed to Nghia Nyugen, who has lived there at least 20 years.
Fire Chief Brad Emans said Nyugen reported having a candle burning in the garage when he went to the restroom inside. When he returned, the fire had started.

Nyugen and a woman were seen moving four cars out of the driveway and garage prior to firefighters arriving. A fifth car, an Oldsmobile parked in front of the garage, was damaged by the fire.

Emergency personnel blocked State Highway 7/22 for several hours because a water hose was connected to a hydrant north of the highway near Excelsior Homes. A hydrant closer to the home was on a dead-end water line and had only minimal pressure.

The fire department’s pumper truck, the first on the scene, had an internal pipe burst early in the response and was unable to provide its usual water capacity, Emans said. Firefighters had to bring the department’s ladder truck forward to provide pumping capacity.

Emans said Nyugen told him the home was not insured and that they didn’t have relatives in the area to stay with. The American Red Cross was called to assist.

Ninety minutes after the initial call, firefighters were in what is referred to as “overhaul” mode. Emans said the fire had spread to the attic, making it too dangerous to have firefighters inside. The ladder truck was used to fight the blaze from above at that point.
Normally, house fires happen all the time, but how often does it happen to someone you know? On Monday morning (11/25/13), I received a text from my girlfriend Koni saying her parents' house was on fire. Luckily no one was hurt, but financially, they're hurt. The text in bold states that their house wasn't insured. I have no idea how that's even possible, but what happened already happened.

I was hoping to get some help from some local FT86ers. This is really weird for me as I don't like asking for things from other people. Your donations don't have to be monetary. Used clothes, microwaves, food, and other basic things will help too. Things you'd donate to the Salvation Army or the Goodwill.

Thanks for reading, and I appreciate your generosity in advance.

That really sucks and especially for it to happen this time of year. A childhood friend of mine was recently in the same situation.

I have a decent dining room table that I no longer need and would be happy to donate if it helps. I'll look and see if I have any other household items that would help.

Just let me know if they want the table, and best wishes to your girlfriend and her family.

Sounds good. On a side-note, did they miss-spell their last name that many times in one article?? Are they Nyugen or Nguyen?

I kinda figured that but didn't want to assume. I hope we'll still see you around some. I probably need to get my ass to the track at some point.

For any thinking about the under panels. I personally really like mine. It's not a part you really see much but it really cleans up the underside of the car. I'd be buying hem if I didn't already have a set.
