It probably won't come out until at least until 2014. They still have to sell the coupe to make their money back.

That is one ugly ass roadster. If they made a roadster I can't see it being better than the current MX5 as it would weigh about 400-450 lbs to negate the 33 hp/11 tq difference. Also it wouldn't be more pratical and it would cost about 4k-5k more which with taxes would easily eclipse 30k. These are the reasons why I believe Toyota won't make this foolish move.

The render is OK, but the one in real life is disgustingly horrible.
I never wanted a convertible but if the car does well, I'm sure you'll see a lot of them. |

I made the comment it looked like something my buddies would have done with a cutting saw after too many beers.

Details on the build and pics:
Designed and built by Cartel Customs, lead by Jeremy Lookofsky, the Cartel Speedster takes the top clean off the FR-S, leaving in its place a low windshield, sloped side windows, and a double-bubble deck lid in classic speedster style. The custom FR-S is also outfitted with a wide range of other mods, including: an upgraded clutch, exhaust, and suspension; Wilwood brakes; larger 18x8-inch front and 18x9.5-inch rear wheels wrapped in Toyo Proxes R888 tires; custom fenders and hood; a 61-inch carbon fiber wing; custom paint; and a fully custom interior. |

Like someone else said, I'd rather have a 4 door FR-S. Even suicide doors would suffice! At this price, it's what I would need to justify it. if it were 3-4 grand cheaper, I could have lived with the 2 door. Convertible? There are only two convertibles I like, the original Miata, and the S2000.

How could I miss that? I want that fender without fake side vent.
Also, I like the CL rims and the inner door panel is nice for a race spec car. |

About the only thing I really liked were the white on black Scion logos. I wonder if those are an avaiable part?

Subaru was the only one who cared about the engineering aspects since they were responsible for it. Toyota doesn't care as much as pushing for this car to be successful in every way. That includes coming out with a convertible that has weaker structural integrity just to satisfy aesthetic reasons. |

Yes it sure was. I sat next to the guy who built it. He also built the iQ track support car with the tool drawers, tires, and jack.

that little IQ was cool, but this FR-S speedster deal....errrrrnot so much. the lines don't mix well w/ the custom fabrication, but whatever...it's just a one off. I gotta say though; the centralized analog cluster is sweet.
