Just totally non scientific observations to add fuel to the disucssion.

It wasn't in your mind, that's how it's supposed to drive with the correct fuel.
The engine is designed and tuned for 93 and higher. 91 is really a temporary measure until you can get the right fuel and I would drive it with that in mind and not wind it out on 91. It's been mentioned the engine even rattles on 91 at times. Add ethanol into the equation and i'm not surprised that engines are shitting themselves.

Really? Might want to take a step back and look at how many BRZs are out there compared to the ones with issues, it is a tiny, tiny fraction. Go to ANY car forum, and I promise you you'll see the same thing in the warranty/tsb sections, with all kinds of issues.

might explain why these issues are popping up on the west coast with all of the 91 out there? I havent seen any of these reports on the east coast, with all of the 93 over here.

I have a feeling they didn't allow for 91 E10 being used all the time but decided there was enough of a safety factor to ok its use. Now they are paying the price and the owners in California.
As I have mentioned, in Oz, cars that can use ethanol blends have that on the filler cap with the max allowed, ie E20 along with the minimum octane.
The 86 only has 98RON or higher[93US] Which means don't use ethanol blends.

Oh please.. The sky is to falling and it's not all doom and gloom..
The few issues that exist are more isolated and affect a few if they are even issues at all.. This is a new car.. And running changes and TSBs will correct them. For every owner posting there is something wrong.. There are thousands of happy smiling drivers out there enjoying a trouble free experience.
Many create their own problems and issues with unproven mods or extreme usage and abuse..
This car has much going for it.. It truly is an exciting affordable car! You shouldn't miss out because of a few mishaps or posted problems.. I've owned much more expensive cars that were more problematic yet less satisfying to drive and own..

I use tuners that understand SAFE POWER so detonation/knock/overpressured cylinders just do not happen...
This is the indicated cause of the DI seals failing.
Once you know you have a failure continuing to drive/track the car will result in engine failure as the faulty seal will alloe air/fuel mix to escape and allow air back in leaning out the cylinder till you allow it to knock itself to death..

If I think there is an issue with my car IT'S ON THE TRAILER...to the tuner and we find out WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON. Before we blow the bitch up!

Mike sorry for your problems... I had my warranty voided when I picked up my car. I knew I would be using it in timed events, Competeing in timed events, and using these results to assist my parts sales efforts...very close to CSG's marketing GOALS.
You really can't have it both ways.
But you can rationalize ANY position.

I'm just grateful ANY car company wants to sell me a performance car that doesnt cost 40K+.

Happy as punch being responsible for my own actions!

Robi
But the car is marketed as a track ready car from the factory. And from the factory includes a factory warranty. I don't think it is unreasonable for a car to be track ready and have a warranty.

Marketing will say anything to sell you a car.. Yet the fine line says its not warranted for track or competition use.. No production car is track ready with a warranty.. And those that track this car stock will tell you it's not track ready..

I think Texas gets 93? It's happened to at least one car there

I don't suspect my car of having any issues currently though. It'll be interesting to see what happens long term

It mentions nothing about track use. Does it mention racing and competition? Yes.

Does it mention track use? No. HPDE's are explicitly NOT racing or competition events.

hpde's also do not use timing/transponders...
Or call themselves the 86CUP, 86 Challange. and promote a season long COMPETITION for points earned at each HPDE day for the FASTEST TIME.. thats the big dividing line when it comes to insurance too...
get a time and void your insurance not always just mostly.
This is a sporty road car, not a race car not a track car even though it can be used as such.
After reading horror stories about oil temps and seeing the stock radiator..we didn't go on track till we had a solution...
My stock tires and brakes are all new too lol

Agreed. I was just correcting the previous poster who stated that any track use would void the warranty, which is certainly not the case according to the fine print.

Gezzz.. Calm down.. Try telling ur dealer when something breaks that you were just tracking your car or attending HPDE events and your tranny broke.. Please fix it..
I'm sure the abuse clause or not intended use will come into play.. But you can believe those events are ok..
