not sure if you guys are serious about audio at all (it seems this forum has many other mods in mind ) but just a simple upgrade of the front 3.5" and door 6.5" made a big difference for me. for about $100. Never see anyone talking about audio upgrades (besides in the audio section) so I figure I'd mention it. well worth the money if you enjoy audio

infinity 6.5 door speakers

First "big" mod I want to do is a speaker upgrade, so that's good info. I'll have to check out what it sounds like some time, though that might be a little difficult since meets aren't your thing. What type of music do you mostly listen to, for reference?

if you're interested in hearing, I might come out to something. I listen mostly to rock, alternative.... stuff from the 90s, early 00s. other than that, a lot of stuff. older electronic, modern edm (occasionally), etc.

I've spent more on audio than other upgrades just don't talk about it because no one is interested. Sometime I would like to get a 2nd opinion on my audio to see if I am just picky or what when I have complaints. Of course it did wonders for my opinion when I had to swap back to stock for a week... Then I really appreciated the upgrades.

I'm curious what your oem+ sounds like. The price was a little steep for me, and I wanted to do some custom fab for the amp and subs in the back (eventually plan on fiberglass mounts).

working on a custom mount that goes thru the rear deck for an amp mount from the top of the rear deck in the trunk. it is a PITA back there. no space at all. Everyone in my apartment complex probably thinks I am a weirdo for being out in my car with my legs sticking out the trunk all evening. Even had someone's dog run up and start licking my feet as I was under there. A little startling, lol.

back on topic, audio is so subjective, it makes things so difficult. I see plenty of people spend money on focals, illusions, digital processors, crossovers, etc. It just doesn't make that much of a noticeable difference for me to spend all the extra money. It's funny how that works.. in comparison to something that can be quantified like performance mods.

Yes.. I come from the home theatre audio world not the car audio so its been extremely difficult to get sound I want. For some reason car is all about the boom or really bright highs etc. And then I find that the road noise on these tar + gravel roads we have in texas makes audio sound weak that sounded great when its quiet. I went with OEM Audio+ because they brag about balanced sound. With audio you should START with a completely balanced system and THEN tweak to your liking. No so easy with car audio. Head units are more about cramming tons of features in than quality. This is why I want some subjective opinion on the OEM Audio plus and if you come to some of the same comments as me then I know its not me. At least I have to remember its light years better than stock.

If someone figures a good way to cut road noise without adding tons of weight I would love to do something! There are plenty of threads of people doing lots of sound deadening but none really finding the best bang for the buck. For example is most of the road noise from the rear wheel wells? The doors? etc. I am not interested in the time / effort / weight that people do for the full sound deadening but these tar and gravel roads are deafening.

And speaking of legs sticking out the back... BY FAR the hardest part of the OEM Audio Plus install was getting that carpet re-attached on the slide in type connectors on top of the stock amp and rear deck area. That was a HUGE pain. I am sure if you did it you would know exactly which piece I am talking about.

Speaking of audio I had one of those awesome moments driving on Sunday I will probably never forget. I have about 5 or 6 memories burned in my mind from my impreza (mostly on gravel roads in the middle of nowhere) and this was my first BRZ one. I was cruising through some twists sunday afternoon on the way back from a hike + picnic, having fun but not even squealing tires, doing 60 or so (yellow corner sign said 35 I think).

Blue bonnets and those red orange indian paintbrush flowers all along the roads, beautiful countryside. I was blaring the album The Wall (Pink Floyd), which amazingly my wife had never heard, and we were having a fun time but then my wife says in the middle of a corner, totally freaked out: "I WANT TO LIVE"... :eye bulge: hah hah hah. A small part of me said I must pull over and take a picture with corners and flowers and sunset and all that... but the majority of me said I was having too much fun to stop.

Saw a white brz, looked stock, yesterday around 8-9pm in front of chuys.

@myterymachine will you be attending the next cars and coffee? id like to check out your OEM+ setup, I've heard really good things about it. I have a 12 kicker CompR sub with a pioneer amp right now, sounds alright not too loud. Will be getting inside speakers next, anybody have any good brand recommendations?
