Update: I can now successfully rev match downshift with minimal issues. Turns out, what I was doing to down shift was pretty much held the accelerator where it would need to be and then dump the clutch. Which is fine if I'm planning on speeding up but doesn't help in slowing down.

However, how do you effectively roll from gear 6 to gear 1 to neutral as you near a stop? I haven't found an effective way to do this. I'm assuming this is where heel-toe comes into play. At which case, is it toe to throttle or heel to throttle?

You shouldn't be using heel toe if you're stopping. You heel toe to maintain high rpm while slowing down so you can better accelerate or for managing a drift. If you stop it's pointless. Just keep down shifting until you are going really slow

My issue I've found with that is that the person behind you has to deal with your flashing brake light due to the switch from braking to blipping as you roll down the gears. does that come with the territory and regular motorists will just think you're a semi-handicapped person?

Blip gas down shift, blip gas downshift, blip gas down shift.
You are thinking it is harder than it is. No heel toe is required (I have never heel toed in my life). I row through all the gears on my way down for every slow down (unless a panic stop of course) and rarely even touch the brakes until 2nd gear.

This of course is day to day driving and track requirements will vary.

If you slip the clutch a little more you won't need to blip the throttle. Or put it in a lower gear and just hold the clutch all the way in until you reach a good speed. Then if there is an emergency you can just floor it and drop the clutch. I dunno, I just neutral roll to stop but I like to live dangerously

How long do you allow your car to engine brake inbetween gears? I find myself going too quickly and end up with 2nd gear revving at like 5k RPM

Gear 6 to 1 puts unnecessary strain on the car. Down shift 6 to 5 to 4 then 3 to 1.

I do 6 to 5 then 4 then 2 and none.

OP: I think your over thinking this. Do what is natural. Blipping isn't really necessary. With experience you'll discover the proper speeds to shift up and down.

I'm with Ashi. I tend to get lazy and just coast into a stop. I know. Improper technique.

Not long. I can't really say X amount as it depends on how fast I want to slow down, what the conditions are, etc. I have been doing it for so long I just sort of do it and don't pay much attention.

I worded that strangely but I don't go from 6th gear straight to 1st. But it's good to know I can skip a gear here and there.

I've been called a loveable douche before so I guess my humor can seem like a **** sometimes.

I think he meant going all the way through each gear. At least that was how I read it. Doing 6 to 1 is a very, very, very bad idea!
