Upsizing it isn't like sending a man to the moon with a slide rule, it just wouldn't make any money.

That GEAR Concept looks like a Dodge front AND back lol!

I wouldn't be surprised if the new Beat is done better than the new NSX.

At least the 70's Civic front (also known as a Honda Ballade when I was a kid) looks like an actual H.

The GEAR to me looks like a modern Dodge EK Civic.

2017 Honda Civic Hatch Spied, And This One Is Coming To US

Quote:
If you liked what you saw at this year’s Geneva and New York auto shows with Honda’s Civic Hatch Prototype, you’ll be happy to know that the production model is almost identical – even more so in the Si / Type-S trims. No Subaru concept to production-style disappointments here…

As evidenced by the lack of the center mounted exhausts and lower body spoilers, plus the smaller wheels seen on previous 2017 Civic hatchback prototypes we’ve spied and which were the Si / Type-S performance variants, this group of testers we nabbed in the Alps are the base models.

These will be powered by Honda’s new generation of 1.0-liter and 1.5-liter VTEC Turbo gasoline engines, with the former to likely develop close to 120hp to replace the current naturally aspirated 1.6L 1.4L in Europe and other markets, and the latter that is already offered in the US-spec Civic sedan, 174 horses. Europe will also get an improved version of the current 1.6-liter i-DTEC four-cylinder diesel producing more than 120hp.

Further up the chain will be the Si for North America or Type-S in other markets, which is believed to get a de-tuned version of the Type-R’s 2.0-liter turbocharged VTEC four-cylinder pumping out over 200horses – possibly as much as 250hp, to compete with the VW Golf GTI and Ford Focus ST. Sitting at the top of the range will be the next Type R with a more extreme body kit and at least 300 horses from the 2.0-liter Turbo VTEC engine.

The North American lineup will include the 174hp 1.5-liter turbo engine for the base model, and from late next year, the 2.0-liter turbocharged Si and Type R five-door performance hatchbacks, all of which will be available with a 6-speed manual gearbox.

Given the similarities with the concept, it should have the same dimensions making it 30mm wider (1.2 in.), 20mm lower (0.8 in.) and 130mm (5.1 in.) longer than the current hatch that is not available in North America, and as a result, offer a more spacious cabin.

The hatch shares its platform and interior with the 10th generation Civic Sedan and Coupe that are already on sale in North America, but unlike those two, it will be produced exclusively at Honda’s UK Swindon plant for all markets around the world.

We should see the production 2017 Civic Hatch bow at the Paris Auto Show in early October with its North American debut to follow either in LA in November or in Detroit in January.

Honda Reveals 2017 Civic Hatchback, Landing At US Dealers In September

Quote:
Have you been waiting for the new Honda Civic hatchback to make its way to American showrooms? Well your wait will soon be over, friend, as the first shipload is on its way to the United States. And while it's underway, Honda has released full details and the first official photos of the new five-door model.

Shipload? As in, from Japan? Yes and no. While Honda builds the Civic sedan and coupe in Indiana and Ontario for local consumption, the “global production hub” for the five-door model is in the UK. That's where they'll be exported from to locations around the world, and the US is getting the first units off the line.

Now that the ship has set sail, we're glad to finally tell you what's on board. No longer “forbidden fruit” to American buyers, the Civic Hatchback will be offered in five trim levels: LX, Sport, EX, EX-L, and Sport Touring. Only one engine will be offered – a 1.5-liter turbo four – but in two states of tune and with two transmission options.

The LX, EX, and EX-L models boast 174 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque. The Sport and Sport Touring models pack the same twist, but a high-flow exhaust helps them produce a little more power at 180 hp. Buyers will also be able to choose between a continuously variable or six-speed manual transmission (depending on the trim).

What's more is that the hatchback pictured here in production guise for the first time will also serve as the basis for the next Civic Type R, which promises to be something to shout about.

In the meantime, the Civic hatchbacks are making their way and are scheduled to reach dealers next month already in September. British and European buyers, meanwhile, will have to wait until early next year.

2017 Honda Civic Hatchback Priced From $19,700 In The US, On Sale Next Week

Quote:
Due to hit US showrooms early next week, the new 2017 5-door Civic hatch joins the 2016 Sedan & Coupe models to complete Honda's 10th-generation US Civic lineup.

The starting MSRP of $19,700 represents the base-spec LX model which features a 6-speed manual transmission and a 1.5-liter turbocharged in-line 4-cylinder engine with 174 HP and 167 lb-ft (226 Nm) of torque.

There are five available trims in total (LX, Sport, EX, EX-L Navi & Sport Touring), where Sport and Sport Touring models pack a little more punch with 180 HP and 177 lb-ft (239 Nm) of torque. They also feature a dual-outlet center-mounted exhaust and were designed with premium unleaded fuel in mind.

In terms of fuel economy, Honda says the Civic Hatchback's turbocharged engine boasts class-leading EPA ratings of 31/40/34 mpg (7.5l/100km / 5.8l/100km / 6.9l/100km) in city/highway/combined cycles.

Inside, the 2017 Civic Hatch is said to deliver class-leading volume and cargo capacity as well as best-in-class rear seat legroom at (36 inches/91 cm). Key features include Honda Display Audio with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto (standard on EX and above trims), heated seats, power driver & front-passenger seats and remote engine start.

As for the flagship Sport Touring version, it comes with textured aluminum sport pedals, red-accented instrument illumination and a 540-watt 12-speaker premium audio system - the most potent to ever be offered in a Civic.

Wouldn't say the hatch looks good in a classic sense, but it is aggressive and attention-grabbing.

If anyone was wondering what happened to all the unemployed Pontiac car designers, wonder no more.
