According to Wikipedia, the Cetus Leader, which at first glance appears to be a sister ship to ours, is a 6500 PCTC (Pure Car/Truck Carrier) which presumably means it can carry a maximum of 6500 vehicles.

While I'd imagine they fill it as best they can before sending it off, there's no telling what models are on the ship and how many of each there are.

Interesting because the draft limit for the Canal is 12.6M and the Auriga Leader has a draft of 34.52M according to Wikipedia (which could be wrong of course). Maybe if it's empty and they pump out the tanks...

I never thought I would be so educated on maritime statistics and logistics on a car forum. I love this forum.

The beam is definately 32M, that's listed all over the place. If the beam were 34.52M that would definately exclude it from the Panama Canal too as Panamax is 32.31M and the width of the locks (unless the rebuild has been completed) is 33.53M.

I was getting the draft from wiki for the Auriga Leader (which is the same class RoRo as the Altair Leader, same tonnage, length and beam, etc): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auriga_Leader

Obviously Wiki is wrong

The beam is just the widest part of the ship. Even if it's wider than the canal, it doesn't matter as long as it has clearance of the canal itself.

I know people have bounced back and forth between yes/no/yes/no whether or not the ship can go through the canal.

Found this image as well. Obviously not going to stand up in court but...
