For me, adding collision to any of these cars bumped up my premium by at least $100 a month. I'm also under 25y/o and have a speeding ticket on my record. But when I tried my insurance company, I got the following with 100/300k liability, $500 comp w/ glass, and $500 collision-

S2k - $175 per month
05 Accord LX coupe - $200 per month
05 RSX-S - $245 per month

I was shocked how high the RSX-S was, that seems crazy high to me.

One a side note - I ran some insurance numbers last night and it's cheaper for me to insure an 03 s2k than an 05 rsx type-s or 05 honda accourd coupe. How does that make any sense?
As long as you have a clean record, s2ks are cheap to insure. As soon as something happens though, insurance will skyrocket.

It also has to do with where you live, how often the car is stolen in your area, etc.

Oh, I'm definitely aware of the million+ factors taken into consideration when figuring out insurance premiums, it just seemed odd to me. Btw, I live in a zero-crime town, car stays at an owned home (my folks) with 5 other drivers in the house and I know that the stupid speeding ticket I got adds about $40-$50 to my monthly premium for any newer car I plan to get.

I love the s2000 and the idea of no payments which gives me more money to buy photo gear and car parts with but im iffy about buying a car with over 50k miles >_>

Any input ?
If I was you I would be all over that if you can deal with a two seater.

Wow, 40-50 isn't bad. Out here in socal, 1 point would more than double premiums for a s2k

From a former owner of s2k the only thing I didn't like about the car is no back seats and having to a buy a hardtop. But the car was great on track compared to a lot of other cars I had driven.

I'm thinking about buying a 04-05 s2k sometime within the next 2 years. As much as i dig the frs/brz ima go for an s2k. I'm thinking on building a Spoon S2k.

*Edit* Due to how i constantly change my mind about what car i would love to build, project Spoon S2k is thrown into my many ideas lol

I am really tempted to get another s2k (CR). I keep going back to this thread and I am reminded of all the pros of the BRZ. I'm creating this list to stop myself from buying the CR.

BRZ
+ very affordable
+ nav
+ no need for a tire trailer
+ not worry about theft
+ rear seats fold down
- the wait is agony! I really need to get rid of the Evo X & the BRZ can't come soon enough!

The longer you wait, the longer you'll have to second guess yourself!

The one thing that never felt right to me with the S2000 is the steering feel. It just didn't communicate enough about the road or the car to give me confidence in what it was doing.

It's hard to explain, but it really lacks that squishy shakey feel, that let's you know the car is telling you something. I think Jeremy puts it as if you run over a squirrel, you should be able to tell what it had for dinner.

If I don't have that feeling, it's hard to feel connected to the car, or the drive, and that just kills the S2000 for me.

I'm hoping the 86 corrects this problem, and it seems like from early reviews it has.

^ I agree. It feels too digital (too much steering assist). Definitely no Lotus steering.

is this because of hydraulic vs eps? or just the way eps is tuned? i don't recall modern cars having hydraulic steering.

I think prior to this car manufacturers had a lot of trouble tuning the EPS, but hydraulic steering can be numb too. A lot of modern cars do have hydraulic steering, despite the power sapping pump, because it's easier to tune good feel in a hydraulic steering rack apparently.

The FRS/BRZ electric power steering is the first electric system that's gotten praise for its tight responsive feel IIRC.
