I'm not sure I'd go as far as to call Pilot A/S3s "sedan tires". They're extremely high performance tires that outperform many dedicated summer tires in the dry, without wearing out as quickly and without being as useless in the cold, or if there's a tiny bit of snow on the ground.

Yikes, $600k is a huge number, hope they're able to deal with that number...I mean, that's a couple of houses, depending on where you are. That would drive me nuts.

I know some people going into $100k debt for an art degree though. The Art Institutes is a funny place, they don't even check your skill level before admitting you..And currently are being sued by the government for fraud.
Less sympathy for the $100k art degree than the $600k doctor degree, though.

Agreed.

I don't think it should be PERMITTED for lenders to do that. These youngsters have no idea what they're getting into when they borrow so much money.

It's a disaster in this country, and it's going to affect us all. An entire segment of the economy is unable to participate in the economic cycle because they're financially paralyzed with student loan debt.

This is all going to come back to bite the greedy grown-ups in the ass.

Somebody needs to advise these youngsters AGAINST taking on such burdensome, DESTRUCTIVE debt.

I may have helped our friend, @IntotheOcean, in that regard. She may wish to chime in here, too.

Michelin Pilot Super Sports, a superb tire, are amazingly "cheap."

What sizes are you considering?

Oh, sure. Just do what the rest of us do up north: In the fall we mount our cold weather tires, and in the spring we swap to our summer high performance tires. That's the benefit of separate winter wheels; we can go with dedicated summer rubber.

We don't wait for the snow to put on our winter wheels. They're for cold weather, not just snow.
The super sports are still more expensive, and don't last as long though. And as chrisl said, the A/S 3 are very good. I've read plenty of reviews for it, it's highly praised. And I'd prefer to keep them on as long as possible. My snow tires don't like warm weather at all, so if I stick them on too soon, I could have some issues with them on the random warm days.

As for the size, if I get the wheels I want I need a 245/40 tire.

Most of the times it's saddled with lies "OH IT'S GONNA GET BETTER" and like the art institutes, they claim they help with employment in the field, but the AIs count working at Home Depot as "part of the art field."
I dunno,I feel that if you're going to take $100k+ in debt, you better have the fucking skill, if you're going into art, or a confirmed job after graduation. If you're unemployed and that grace period is up..Well, it won't be good.
I get that the higher ups shouldn't tell the students to go into that insane debt, but it's also on the students as well. They chose to take out those loans, they knew what they were getting into.

As a side note, my Ai student example is bothering my friend who works at Disney. Oh boy, do I want to tell her off badddd. For more reasons than one.

Ah yes @Porsche,
Student loan debt is nothing to mess around with.
I'm very fortunate the degree I want is offered at my community college and that I can pay as I go.
Because if it wasn't I would have reluctantly gone off to some private school, and the frs would have been totally out of the picture.
Another plus: Is that there's only one other school (I believe) in New York (Maybe 1 other further Upstate) That offers this major, so I don't have to worry about potential employers turning me away due to lack of elite college name.

My only problem with the community college: aside from parking a million miles away to protect my car, is having to pay for gym credits. blah

Sadly @LadyFRZ most of these 18 year olds have no idea what they are getting themselves into.

They barely understand debt, how competitive the job market is, and have these unrealistic ideas of what their starting salaries are going to be -As if they know what income tax is, among other things like living expenses....this one kid told me he was going to college to be an art professor, (hes terrible at art btw-it breaks my heart) and mentioned how his back up plan was to be a manager for gamestop since they make 40k...Living on long island can easily be 20k and after taxes whats left for him to save?

Its unsettling hearing these kind of things.
...New york is such a terrible place to live, honestly I cant wait to move once I have experience in my field. I'm totally picking a state that doesn't require a front plate too while I'm at it lmao

This particular one I'm talking about (omg my shift key is acting funny so I apologize in advance) is my ex's sister (Told you guys he's a winner, same with his family). She KNEW the amount of debt she was getting into.

SHE TURNED DOWN A FULL RIDE SCHOLARSHIP.
she thinks she's going to make it big with her furry drawings. like, crayons. my disney-working friend is CRAZY religious and said "those are shit" and she said she would throw them away if she saw them in an application.
My ex is also looking to put down another $200k on a MS degree. (On top of his $50k+ debt he thinks his dad will 100% pay for.)
THIS is the type of person i don't have sympathy for.
But man, would that have been a show to watch...

This also relates to the "special snowflake syndrome" that's becoming increasingly common, the "I'll make it big" even though her skill definitely is lacking.

Also, you're going to a cc? i went to a cc before transferring.actually an amazing experience. 100% taught by PhDs in their field of teaching.
And get what you mean.San Diego is expeennssiivveee.

Yep. It's the dues you pay for keeping a sportscar at its peak.

You should know, too, that not only is summer rubber softer and not as durable, those tires typically BEGIN with a shallower tread depth, 9/32" vs 11/32" or more.

So, yes, you're quite right. You will almost certainly get more mileage out of the all season tires.

Is it the best value? Well, that hinges on how much weight you give to the different elements, doesn't it?

And, yes, those new A/S 3 look very impressive, no doubt. Chris is right.

But they're not MPSSs.

Older, more experienced drivers learn to just bite the bullet and not compromise on tires. I know it's tempting to save money, and the A/S 3 is certainly a good tire. But, if it were me, and I bought all seasons, I'd then sell the winter wheels. YMMV

Quote:

I hear you.

For your circumstances, I'd have recommended tires like mine: high performance winter tires, not dedicated snow/ice tires which are meant for areas that remain snow covered for long periods of time.

And is it performance or appearance that matters most? Either one is fine. If "appearance," then maybe save some money on the tires. Obviously, I would lean towards the summer rubber, but there's nothing wrong with choosing the A/S 3.

Did you see the review from last year (R&T maybe?) where the bigger tires on this car actually turned slower lap times? Too much drag, too much "sticktion," I guess.
