Random gaming thought...

I've been playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey of late (catching up on my gaming queue).

When clearing out a fort I've taken to leaving one non-key NPC behind. I just have in my mind this guy turning around at some point and wondering where everybody else went.

So I've read. I find it a little interesting given Bethesda make PS games. I read that MS will honour the two major PS games already in the works (I can't be bothered finding out which two they are because consoles) but I wonder if there would be a conflict of interest making PS games. That is, where is the most money? In selling consoles or selling games.

It's no more a conflict than Microsoft making a version of Office that runs on iOS. Whether they choose to do it or not is another issue of course.

Oh, and the money is in the software, not the hardware. Writing quality software can be expensive, but once its done, its a money machine. Costs virtually nothing to "manufacture" and creates a continuous revenue stream.

They will probably release the games at the same time on both consoles and the PC like they've been doing but the catch is, if you get the game for Xbox/
PC you can get it for only the cost of game pass, while on the PS% it'd be $70.

Hardware is often sold at break even/loss.

I doubt we'll see Bethesda software titles on PS beyond what they are stating they will release. Software exclusives sell consoles and XBox needs all the exclusives they can get.

I'm assuming they will continue to sell it separately of Game Pass on PC/XBox but what you are saying does make sense.

I usually buy AAA games about 12 to 18 months behind, so the value with Game Pass was marginal, particularly since I don't do console gaming at all. If MS continues to scarf up the studios and as more PC games I typically purchase are on Game Pass, it becomes more compelling.

Ehh, to be honest, Microsoft has had a better track record than Bethesda by themselves. Still unsure of what this honestly means though.

If anything, Bethesda was already doing a good job of running themselves into the ground already.

Bought and built a new computer recently with a 3700X. Still running a GTX 970 though. Waiting for the 3080s to come back in stock. Gamer's Nexus mentioned that people they talked to said that the launch availability of the 3080 was only 5% of what would be available by the end of October. So it sounds like you might have a chance to get one in the coming weeks. But nobody knows when companies restock their websites. It could be blind luck that you check newegg and there is stock. Others are saying into early 2021 before demand slows. Gotta keep in mind that people like me and 10-series owners are all trying to get the same thing.

I'm thinking it wouldn't be wise to wait for Black Friday just for a discount on a 3080 since this is a new high-end card. Has this been the case?

Honestly, game plan is to wait until Black Friday anyway because I'm building a new rig with an LGA 1200 motherboard and ideally an i9 10900K (without the jacked up inflation), but I'll probably just purchase an i7 10700K instead since Rocket Lake is supposed to be coming out sometime next year.

Anything to watch out for?

I haven't played much in recent years from bethesda besides the id software developed games so maybe i've missed some stinkers.

Can't say I've been terribly impressed with a number of microsoft releases I've purchased over the last couple of years and their content delivery service via the microsoft store is atrocious.

Guess we'll have to see if bethesda goes the same way of dice, bioware, rare and lionhead studios to name a few.
