I've entered a raffle at an online computer store. The winners get invited to buy a RTX3080.
Also, I'm refreshing a page every couple of minutes at another store because I was told their RTX3080s will be listed around 11pm tonight. First in first serve, no back-ordering.

I wonder if the page change detection software will work.

Hah, sort of like Scion's First 86 program. When telling the story I always say it figures the first time I win a contest of substance it was just a chance to spend my own money earlier.

The Oculus Quest 2 went on sale at their site yesterday. I placed an order for one. I've been real happy with the original Quest, particularly when sideloaded to run PC VR wirelessly, but the 2 has a lot of features the 1 is missing (higher resolution, better processor, etc). Plus now we'll be able to play some 2up games at our house.

I didn't try, I'm controller-challenged. Two of my sons did but no luck.

Sucks. I think I managed to get one, pre-order hasn't bounced yet.

Slowly, but surely, I am becoming a little more controller challenged. I think it's due to the amount of twitch shooters I play on PC now, but it's destroying my wrist lol.

Prices for the RTX3080 range from AUD$$1,139 to $1,469 on one website. While it is affordable it is a little more than I was hoping to spend. Which is good in a way because now I can wait without angst for the RTX 3070 release, which is probably going to be adequate for 1440p, and the announcement of AMD's cards. I would like to support AMD if their cards are up to it but fear of their drivers makes me think I will stick with Nvidia regardless.
We'll see.

Back in the day, (1997) I bought an IBM Aptiva S90 for over $6 grand. It had two expansion slots. I needed one for my Sound Blaster card with the digital game port. In order to get the best video I opted for an Obsidian2 X-12 (two 6MB cards SLI'd on a single board. It listed for over $900! I was working lots of overtime and had sold my gun collection so I went and spent stupid money on computer stuff. With my sound system, wheel and Thrustmaster H.O.T.A.S. system I had over $10 grand into my computer just to play Falcon 4 and GP 2.

I haven't really paid attention to consoles since switching over to PC 7 years ago, save for my Switch.
