I read through a lot of the earlier parts of this thread and skimmed the rest. I have a few questions that I'm sure plenty of folks can answer.
My initial goal as far as power mods includes intake, full exhaust, and lightweight pulley. I'm reading about lightweight flywheels as well but I'm on the fence there. Ultimately I will be combining all this with a tune to maximize the benefits. I'd like to break the 200whp mark while staying NA if possible. I'm hoping as tuning really starts showing us the engine's potential with bolt-ons this will be doable. I'd also like for the car to sound mean but not obnoxious. Someone in another thread mentioned they had a min/maxing problem stemming from RPG gaming. I'm there too, unfortunately. This means I want to be absolutely sure that the parts I buy rank at or near the top in terms of potential in each category. My first question as far as this intake is concerned has to do with power making potential. I'm not after the highest peak power if it means losses everywhere else but if possible I want the greatest gains across the majority of the power band. I've got experience only with the more traditional, at least to me, CAI in which a long intake tube moves the filter out of the engine bay entirely. I've got no experience with the aftermarket air box type of intake. I'm not opposed to the idea but I'm curious as to how the pros and cons compare to those of the AEM CAI I had in my old Lancer before my Evo. Compared to this type of CAI would I be leaving slightly more potential on the table by going with an air box style intake? Secondly, and I don't recall seeing this asked anywhere, between oiled and dry filters which is better? I tried some brief Google research on this and found nothing conclusive or even anything directly comparing the two. Which tends to make more power? Which is safer for the engine? Lastly, sound. Lowest priority but it does matter to me. Previous intakes have done a lot to improve the engine noise in my past cars. Especially under WOT. What does this intake sound like? Someone said they didn't think it changed the sound of the engine much at all. I want a nice growl. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

I am some what anal about filtration. Along with the oil filter I replace the fuel and air filter every 10,000 kilometers. Could Airaid recommend a disposable pleated paper filter that would be suitable for this kit?

The filter was designed specifically for this kit, but I can provide dimensions so you can try to source something. The inlet is 120mm or 4.75" and it is roughly 6.5" long and 6" diameter at the widest point.

I'd imagine that only turbo guys will want larger ID tubes, in which case they'll already have something custom fabbed for their particular setup.

This intake will make gains with or without a tune. As mentioned above, the system can far outflow the CFM requirement of even a modified engine. A tune should work synergistically with bolt on pieces to extract max power, the Airaid unit looks to be no different.
