Scion FR-S sports coupe cheaper, Subaru BRZ arrives sooner

So here's the question: if the BRZ is supposed to arrive sooner, why has no one heard about their VIN's yet? The Scion section has people having their VIN's being communicated to them and that approximate arrival time of June 1st or earlier (not First 86). So if this is the case and assuming that BRZ's are coming earlier, wouldn't logic say that some people should've received VIN's already?

I guess the car will come when it comes. I've already waited this long, what's another month or two or three or four........

I agree, it looks like everyone who's received VINs for the FRS are in Canada. No disrespect to my neighbors to the north but they don't count when it comes to us getting our cars here in the states.

Because SoA's communication network consists of strings and cans.

/truth. When my salesperson said he'd be sending me weekly updates I almost laughed in his face.

As expected, I've heard absolutely nothing since I placed my order and I expect it to stay that way until they want my money.

I was sent an e-mail April 10th with a VIN # and told my car was being loaded onto a boat. Canada isn't expected to get BRZ's released until June, and probably the latter half of June at that. So, with that I'd expect that a bunch of American Subaru's are either already in the States or at least on their way.

Maybe the Altair Leader is actually bringing a second shipment over. Or maybe it's the first for the States and mine was shipped with a bunch of other Subaru's. I'm not really sure why some of Canada's BRZ's were made so early since our release date is pushed back. It will be interesting to continue following the tracking of the ship and see where it goes.

If anybody could find out if a ship left a Subaru Port around the 11th or 12th of April it would be arriving any day now and we can see if it ends up in Vancouver, BC, and goes South. Or maybe it headed to somewhere in the States and headed North.

I unfortunately don't know Subaru's shipping habits. If they unload all the cars at one destination or if they split their load over several ports. I think our best bet is to follow older shipping paths and see if they made multiple stops along the coast or just headed back after it got it's next shipment.

For what it's worth, I received the e-mail on the 10th of April at 11 AM which would be the 11th of April in Japan so... If we can find a boat at a Subaru dock within a day either way of that then we'd have something else to track!

Yeah, doh, good point. I was thinking it might be exciting news for the FR-S people but the FR-S would definitely be coming from a Subaru port. My bad!

Perhaps Canada has a stricter requirement on the creation of VINs for vehicles coming into the country? The US may not require VIN creation until a certain amount of time before the vehicles arrive, whereas Canada may require VIN creation much earlier (which would explain why all distributed VINs are for Canadian buyers).

As pointed out, these RoRo's don't go through the Panama Canal (too much draft - by a LOT).

Perhaps this boat is dropping cars at various ports between WA and CA and then heading to Panama to pick up cargo to take back to Japan. They wouldn't want to run empty all the way across the Pacific. Perhaps there are other "too big for panama canal ships" that drop off cargo on the East end of the Panama Canal, ship it across by truck or train to the west side, and then onto this boat.

I believe this fact was disproved yesterday with a photo of the Auriga Leader sitting in the canal locks...
