Ouch. Not sure I understand your intent, but I do fit into the "demographic" of your comment.

Are you dissing the corvette in general, or just guys in their 40's having a "mid-life crisis"?

I'm not trying to be argumentative, just honestly want your opinion on the vette. Don't worry, I'm not butt-hurt...I've got thicker skin than that...it happens when you get to be my age.

Sorry, sometimes I'm a douche bag. I just have always hated Vettes and Mustangs. When I think about it, I really don't have a reason. Mustang drivers are mostly all douchey and then Corvettes just do not appeal to me like so many people.

Thanks...did some more searching and found the article I remembered from last year:

http://www.topgear.com/uk/car-news/a...x-5-2012-05-23

There is supposedly a spyder in the works via a partnership with Mazda, but it is not the 4C. Per this article that partnership model is targeted for 2015, and I would guess it will be more affordable.

New Vette

Not as exotic looking or unique as whats out there - but you gotta admit with what it has and does - It's a lot of car for the money !

My only concern is the frequency of breakdowns amuhrricun kars are famous for (a buddy works for a dealership driving the customer shuttle - the stories he hears are horrendous).

I'll watch and wait and if reliable I think I'll get one -best bang fer the buck !

No worries dude....but I appreciate where you're coming from because I too had the same attitude towards vettes. I guess mostly because I only ever saw older guys driving them, typically as a weekend cruiser. I immediately equated that car with a status symbol "toy" and assumed I would never, ever, ever consider buying one.

Well, I went to my first track event last month. I had a blast and learned a lot. I also was stunned to see all the corvettes there. Many were immaculate/clean/hauled in trailers...others looked more broken-in and likely daily driven cars. On the track, I couldn't believe how well they performed, relatively speaking. So now, I have a much different perspective on them.

Given that, I knew that a new generation had come out this year, but I had dismissed it. I have been reading up on it online and the new vette is a damn impressive bit of engineering/performance for the price. Plus, I must say the exterior is the first vette that I've seen and really found exciting to look at.

I don't have $70K laying around to grab one...plus it sounds like production is very slow and demand extremely high (reminds me of trying to buy my BRZ almost a year ago)....but I might look at a used C7 in four years as track/DD car.

To OP: sorry for the thread jack....I'll get back on topic.

I like the concept a lot but not the execution. They should've given the thing a manual transmission and an 8k rev limit. The body design is spot on though IMO.

I voted uncool. Sorry but it is just downright ugly from the front view. I'd take it if you gave it to me, but I'd immediately trade it in on something else.

This may have been true during the dark period of the mid 70's to mid 80's but is definitely not true any longer at least in my experience. My last 3 GM products went well over 100K miles without a single stop in the shop for unscheduled maintenance and two of them went beyond 250K with only one serious repair each.

It'd be sub-zero if it was NA or SC with the same HP/TQ

I hope so, I really like the mechanics of the new Vette.
There may be manufacturing quality variations from plant to plant (I hope not).
I was just reporting the observations of a shuttle driver regarding repeated reliability problems from frustrated passengers. Maybe it was a bandit dealership with too much snow up the noses of management and incompetent greedy mechanics

He is adament that as a result, he will NEVER buy a GM.

The front is definitely take it or leave it and it's of course overpriced, but the technology in it is pretty astounding. On that alone it's cool, but I can't find anything else to really love about it.

That spyder is stunning.

Can't help but notice the headlights, concept only or are they changing the ugly ones out?
