Hmmmm..... 35/39 city/highway... I'm gettin 29-30 avg over a whole tank in a '96 RAV4 4WD 4 door. I would wager the 86 is gonna get pretty close the the CR-Z's economy while providing a MUCH more enjoyable drive
Isn't 2650 lbs a little bit on the lighter side of hybrids? Current Prius is coming in at 3,042 lbs.

The prius is no small car, it's about the size of your average Sedan, if not a litle bigger, defintely not as small as the CR-Z would be.

I average just under 40 driving back in forth to school in my civic...and has a bit more power from the lackluster d17

My wife and I tested one out a few days ago. It's a nice little car. We had an '86 CRX and always think fondly of it. The new CR-Z is a nice little car. One thing I found interesting is the U.S. model comes only with a grey fabric interior. In the U.K. you have the option of a leather interior along with several other upgrades not available in the U.S. Would it work for us? Yes, but I'm holding out for the FT 86.

That is the EPA score. 35mpg average is a lot harder to get on the EPA cycle than the real world especially for manual trannies that can't be tuned for economy gear switching. That and you can't cross compare scores like that. You can't compare real world mileage for a different car to the EPA score for a different car. Compare yours to it's EPA or EPA to EPA scores not yours to another car's EPA score. If you get above EPA MPG in your cars than the MPG will be better on the more efficient car.

The CR-Z is a hybrid. 0-60mph in 9 seconds is plenty fast enough.

Seriously if americans had half the diesel powered cars that europe has, we wouldnt need these bullshit hybrids to get maybe 40 MPG

I agree, we need more diesels over here. Only real downside is needing block heaters in the winter if you don't have a garage to park in. Unless you don't see sub freezing temps in the winter.
