If my 13 wasn't in great shape with less than 75k on it I'd plunk down the 30k or so in cash for a new one. I may still do it though

If my son wasn't 14, I wouldn't resign myself to the fact that my next car will probably be an automatic something that's not high risk for insurance. Maybe a hybrid.

I think we all need to keep in mind that aesthetics are a perfectly viable and valid reason to prefer the old car over the new one. Just because people are (rightly) saying that aesthetics are pretty much the only reason why you would choose the old one doesn’t make it a less legitimate reason.

I like the look of the gen 1 better. However, I also think they knocked it out of the park with the Gen 2 Likely own one of each in the years to come. Gen 1 for street and Gen 2 for track. One AT and one MT.
Keeping it affordable is something I think people may be understating. |

Exactly. That’s why I mentioned it is a valid reason without additional qualifiers. Rationalizing a subjective reason makes me think you’re trying to convince yourself, rather than it truly being how you feel. |

My white '13 with the red seat panels, totally track focused and I have no need to look further. I'm coming off of a 911 Twin Turbo and a Miata (it sucked). I call it Little Car. Little Car serves me well. Zero need for something else.

I think people with modified first gens may find it hard to upgrade too. If you spent time modifying, researching parts, fitting them and getting the car to exactly how you want. Some people may not be keen to start all that again if that makes sense.
The wheels on mine for example would be able to switch over, but things like the STI lowering springs and STI axle back exhaust won’t. So you start to think, do I want to start again and throw money at a new car. Plus I love the look and feel of mine now, so it makes it harder to think of upgrading, even though my mods are minor. Yeah it’d kind of feel like I’m shooting Bambi if I traded it in or sold it now lol.

First, teach them to drive a MT. That was a requirement for my kids getting their license, along with how to change a tire, check oil levels, etc. Second, depending on the insurance company, if you buy your kids a cheap reliable car and "assign" it to them, it will have minimal impact on your personal vehicles, at least that was my experience. Yours may vary based on insurance company, and where you live.
