I'm glad it worked. I understand how this noise ruins the pleasant drive. I'm glad I found this solution and it will help others too.

Awesome, I've been trying to figure out where that darn noise was coming from. I'm gonna spray some WD-40 in mine once I get home. Thanks for the post!

Several sprays of chain lube in those pockets, voilà, no more ticking/popping! Even drove around with the back seats down just to make sure. Thanks for the tip Sigh-on-Rice! I was really hesitant about center punching the welds.

Great news!!! It really makes me happy that more people will be able to enjoy this car's amazing driving feel without ruined by this noise. I was hesitant about center punching also and that's why I kept searching for the solution.

The two circled spots in the picture above, there is something that is like a pocket. Spray some type of silicone lube spray in those pockets. I used WD-40. I sprayed until it started to drip. I recommend placing something on the trunk carpet (i.e. card board) right underneath so you won't dirty it.
I tried this on Saturday. I've driven 100+ miles since then with no clicking. Thanks!

Quick update:
My idea was flawed in that the putty knife handle was the key. It basically acts as a wedge that applies pressure to the outer edge of that flap. I would have to have something significantly thicker or something like a wooden door shim.
Sigh on Rice's post 188 validates what I was thinking, but I don't want to go deforming anything too much. I've had some poor results in the past with that type of method of banging or deforming something too much which can result in other rattles down the road.

Perhaps the oil trick is the better way to go, but I'm not gonna give up that easily.
For now, at least I know where my putty knife is should I need it

Another happy customer. Tried some wd40 last night and no more clicking noises this morning. Good thing as I was going to break out the sledge and center punch tool last night.
