I'm also a Christian. So far today I've had my faith insulted and our President mocked on this supposedly politics-and-religion-free forum. Fun. If people are permitted to voice negative opinions about Christianity (or any other religion) and political figures just because it's popular to do so these days despite forum rules, then I guess it would also be appropriate to speak out in support of Christian (or other religious) viewpoints and in support of President Trump's efforts economically, fiscally, and constitutionally.

However, I won't. As I've said a bunch of times in many other posts, I don't have the right or the desire to convince others that "I am right.. and you are wrong." I don't view it that way. Have your own opinions.. your own thoughts.. your own beliefs. Just recognize that not everyone agrees with you, and that those who don't are necessarily stupid or hateful. The most hateful behavior in the political arena I have ever seen in my 57 year lifetime has come from those opposed to President Trump. Disagree all you want; I certainly disagreed with the vast majority of President Obama's agendae and policies. NEVER was he so villified by those who opposed him as President Trump has been. Not even close.

It's too bad. I've truly enjoyed a lot of the time spent here with you all; agreements, disagreements, playful repartee... Ultra, T, Humfrz, DadHawk, and a bunch of others... all good, intelligent, witty people with a lot to offer. It'd be great to share a beer and some laughs with any of you.

Mods, do what you will. If we're to be apolitical and religion-free, keep it that way. If, however, it's OK to follow the current "hip" trends of atheism and hatred of anything Trump ever does by making snide, snipey posts, then ban ME. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one on this forum who would like to see a bit more love of a power greater than man and a bit more adherence to the principals upon which the U.S. of A. were founded, but perhaps I'm the only one who can't take the vitriol any more.

Soo.. please, guys... cut it out.

Oh, come on, Barry. It's a funny picture of the guy. No need for a wall of text.

There, I retracted my addition to the joke. Let's all be friends.

I did not post the word "Trumped" in any relation to US politics and did not even think of the association. For 40 years I have used the term "to be trumped" to mean that a higher level took my trick. The use of the picture again was in a non political manner to indicate that the word "trump" does not mean Trump. I don't see any politics mentioned beyond your rant. I certainly see no mocking done at all.
Please do not look for insults where none were to be found.

Thanks, Ultra. It wasn't the pic.. it was the altered caption that got under my skin. The pic, like most pics of him you'll find disseminated by the media, IS pretty funny.. got no objection or complaints there. I'm not particularly fond of his appearance, his mannerisms, or his apparent lack of thoughtfulness in how he speaks and responds to attacks and criticisms, myself. On the other hand, you don't see the vast majority of the media going out of their way to publicize the times he does look and act extremely presidential, caring, and thoughtful.

But.. enough. Thanks and yes, no hard feelings I hope. Back to our regularly scheduled hilarity and occasional nodule of 86-related knowledge.

Best to you!

OH and this forum is NOT the U.S. of A.!
The part that I guess I took wrong was where you wrote "Now a whole word is ruined for eternity." It seemed to indicate that, simply by being alive and having the misfortune to be named "Trump," our President had ruined a word in your opinion; yet one more thing to blame on President Trump. If that's not what you meant, then I took it the wrong way and I'm sorry.

Conversely, I can see how my statement about "adhering to the principles upon which the U.S. of A. had been founded" was unclear. Sorry about that, too. I wasn't suggesting that the FORUM should adhere to those principles, I was saying that there may be members on the the forum, both U.S. citizens and citizens of other countries, that would like to see the U.S. adhere to those principles and feel that President Trump may be a step towards that desire for the U.S., and that perhaps those members and viewpoints could be allowed to coexist here without having to see a President they, at least in part, support villified here. That's all.

Yeah, I was probably way too touchy about the situation. The day after our election, as I was walking to my car after a day of teaching jazz piano at Syracuse University, I had to walk through an angry group of about 40 students blocking my way to my car, carrying signs and literally screaming, with faces contorted in anger and hate, spittle flying, "LOVE TRUMPS HATE!!" Perhaps the irony of their actions escaped them... in any case, it was a very uncomfortable walk to my car. I didn't bother to confront them and try to reason with them; it wouldn't have done an ounce of good. I have to walk on eggshells around the vast majority of my colleagues, and I would never attempt to influence my students politcally (although the vast majority of my left-leaning colleagues do so daily). I have to listen to the most hateful, vitriolic rhetoric at my places of work and I keep my mouth shut simply because it does no good and I'm pretty much an "army of one" on campus. I hope that helps explain my admitted hair-trigger when I read stuff here.

I AM sorry if I took you the wrong way, T.. and Ultra. You guys know I enjoy and respect you both.

Thanks again,

Barry

Yep. I simply meant that from now on the use of the word "trump" will be linked to an individual and cause exactly the sort of reaction you had when misunderstood. I will have to attempt to not use it anymore unless we are specifically talking about card games.

A lot of people don't know what an inspiration S.U. was to the music of Led Zeppelin.

You know, with their famous song, "Stairway to Haven"...

.. yeah, it is quite a hike up the "hill"... especially when you can't find a parking spot closer than a mile away...

However, to address your point above.. I live in an area that gets severe winter, along with beautiful versions of the other three seasons, because I LOVE winter... big time. I love snow and everything about it. I even love to shovel it. For me, it's not a question of "sucking it up" or being stuck in a job that requires me to live here. Heck, I'm pretty much retired... and I'm not moving to an "endless summer" beach burg ever. Don't get me wrong.. I love the ocean, snorkeling, scuba, would love to learn to surf... but please recognize that there are those of us who LOVE winter.
Sweet. Well, I "like" winter enough to say I enjoy visiting snow for 1-7 days at a time (need physical exercise to keep warm, skiing, hiking) , however to live in snow/ice year after year I know it would take a toll on me (physically). It's like the colder it is, the human body has ways to tack on extra fat during fall/winter, then it makes it difficult to lose that fat later. Even where I live currently it gets down to 18-32 degrees for the winter (no snow, but we could get black ice) , but summers are 90-105 typically. I prefer the temp between 40-75 (beach side) realistically speaking, and I enjoy the Spring and Fall seasons mostly (they seem to be shrinking in time the last 15-20 years… global warming…?)
Peace

There was nothing to misunderstand. I said it because I found it fucking funny and you know that. ...as long as we're being on the record and all.

now nobody gets to see it.
