I drive a beater 5 speed 04 civic, and when I'm off the gas and in gear, I can just pop it into neutral without engaging the clutch.
Is it totaled?

Is it? I have no idea.
I always thought you had to engage the clutch before shifting anywhere.

For that matter, you don't need synchros to shift without a clutch, it's just... a lot more finicky. It's all about the revmatch. I wasn't talking about automagics... (though they have a clutch too, just not one that requires human intervention.) |

Used to do it all the time in the old army jeeps. With enough practice you could drive all day without touching the clutch (other than to stop/start moving of course) and never grind or hesitate once. Now, if you missed the rev match...

I find the prices of shift knobs for our cars to be infuriating.
I bought a Hurst ( a well respected brand that also makes short shifters) knob for my mustang a few years ago. It was well weighted, had a good finish with a brand engraving and it cost me $30 bucks. Just saw the prices for Raceseng and can't believe it.
