I'm about to get back into it. My big triple monitor rig has been sitting idle for a long time. Of course, I go to turn it on. Tons of windows and iRacing and other updates. Starts to crash multiple times.

So I do a fresh install of Windows, then it starts crashing again when trying to enable TMP 2.0, long story short...........I'm taking it to a repair place today to see if they can figure it out. I think the HD has failed, but I'm tired of troubleshooting it and don't want to just start throwing parts at it.

Still a decent enough machine for machine for iRacing even though it's a 4-year old prebuilt with an MSI 3080.......this was the summer of 2021 when buying a prebuilt was only about $500-600 more than buying a video card.

iRacing is probably the best true sim out there, but yes, I feel like in order to get the most out of it you need to spend a bit of money in game (cars/tracks) and equipment such as direct drive.

I want to give it a good chance, but GT7 with VR is just too good.

I've got a bunch of cars/tracks, I find I prefer the Miata racing. I didn't get a chance to mess with GR86 as much as I wanted to before I started ignoring the sim.

It seemed to want to swap ends when going hard on the brakes even when driving in a straight line. Which is frustrating to say the least.

But I dropped my computer off this morning, hopefully it will be fixed soon and I can get everything set back up again.

How did that work out? Same as you, I got a nice prebuilt in 2021 and with exception of a motherboard going bad it has held up like no PC I've ever owned. I hardly use it, but my kids do and it seems to appreciate the attention lol. I think video game development has sort of hit a plateau in terms of graphics and hardware requirement, certainly for racing games. Look at the jump from Gran Turismo 2 to 3, or 4 to 5. But 5 to 7?

I did iRacing in 2011-12. Funny how you describe that GR86. I still recall the moment I decided I was done with it. Practicing in Miata cup car, struggling to keep the rear end under control. I was not finding joy. The bigger problem for me was that I realized serious wheel to wheel racing was not that important to me. I'd much rather be enjoying cars that interest me in GT5.

That's why if anyone asks me about iRacing, I tell them it kinda only makes sense to get into if your top priority is serious wheel to wheel racing.

I've been working on some other things around the house, so the computer is back from being fixed with a fresh Win 11 copy installed. But I haven't set it back up yet. I got a new standing desk, been reorganizing and cleaning my home office. Trying to make room for everything.

The main reason I don't use it as much anymore is the amount of absolutely re------ people on iRacing servers now. And iRacing doesn't seem to dole out as much punishment as they used to back when I had my first set up back in 2014-2015.

Guys intentionally crashing into you after a checker, treating road course racing like NASCAR and just crashing in to you if they can't get around you, etc.

I'll need to get back into using it regularly and get my my iRating back up and get out of the crappy splits.

Oh wow. I figured iRacing servers were like a utopia of respectful, expert drivers any more. People gonna be people I guess. Also letting the riff raff in = more paying customers. Just gotta trust the rating system to do its job.

I was late getting into GT Sport, I think it was a month after it came out before I finally started playing it and tackling the climb through the online ranks. It was ugly but it only took me a few days to make it out of the wasteland.. only to find an even more sinister villain waiting for me: PD's penalty algorithms

I found that in the lower classes iRacing was quite rowdy, but once you got up in both driver skill level (can't remember what the rating system is called) it got better and there is also huge variation in between the individual makes. The Miata cup was a shit show, but the Lotus 78 - which happened only once a week, that's how few people participated - was very clean.
