Thanks. I'm still doing more research as to the whole engine. I'm not too familiar with the JZ platforms. I know basic specs and what they're capable of, but I don't know that much when it comes to aftermarket parts and tuning options. I know that 90% of the swap would have to be utilizing custom parts and there would be some trial/error in the process since we would be the first to use a 1JZ in this car. I know it'll fit though. People can fit 2Js in there all day without too much difficulty. I need to look at every aspect of it though before I do it.

Definitely interested in that 1j swap. May have to join you on that route. Keep us updated.

Still talking to the guys from Get Nuts about it. It can be done and done in a fashion to where I can still retain some of the creature comforts like heat and a/c. With everything said and done, the car would be making 300-350whp with the 1JZ VVTi setup. If I don't go that route, then I'm going with the Jackson Racing supercharger kit. With that and additional bolt ons, I'd probably make between 250-300whp. Costs would be pretty close in the end. The Jackson Racing kit will require an upgraded clutch, upgraded axles, additional oil cooler, as well as additional electronics such as gauges and such. Add to that the headers back exhaust system, custom tune and other accessories and I'm in an easy $9,000. With the 1JZ VVTi, I can get the motor setup for just under 3k. Most of everything comes down to labor and fab work. Custom mounts, wiring, tune etc. As far as parts go, intercooler and radiator piping, custom exhaust, electronics, and axles as well as a few other things. So, the JR kit would be just a bunch of bolt on pieces while the 1JZ setup would consist mostly of custom work. The difference is that the FA20 would be pushed as far as I want it to be pushed and reliability might be questionable while the 1JZ would still be pretty much stock but make more power and be able to handle that power easy. They said for around 10k, I could have the motor in the car with heat and a/c, painted engine bay with stich welding, fender tubs, and additional fab work. Question is... what to do?

1jz, i think you'd be the first to do it, plus you can't beat that sound and the reliability

The 1J with the basic bolt ons to fit and tune wil still yield close to 350whp. The 1J is capable of holding 500whp on stock internals. The amount you would spend just to get a 2J into the car and make stock power could get a 1J in the car with a solid 400+hp setup. I think the only way I'll keep this car is if I go 1JZ. I keep seeing more and more scenarios of people popping the FA motor under stock power levels. I don't want to S/C it and beat the shit out of it just for it to fall apart after 1 season. I know the 1JZ will take the beating all day everyday. So, if I don't go 1JZ, I'll probably end up parting it out, going back to stock, and selling the car

1jz would make more than enough power for this car, I feel like 2jz is just overkill especially factoring the cost of the swaps as well. Just like you said, you'll get more bang for your buck with a 1jz.
1jz all the way |

Just a thought though, since I also came from a 240, what's your opinion on a sr20 swap?

Yup. A clean blacktop would be perfect. Another scenario I'm throwing around

The VVTi 1JZ is perfect because it will cost about $1,000 more than the SR for the full motor set and roughly the same amount of custom work since they both require the same stuff (custom mounts, brackets, wiring etc). The difference is that instead of ending up with a 200hp/tq car, you have a 280hp/tq car and with the additional bolt on parts and tune you'll do to get it in the car and running properly, you'll be between 300-350whp/tq. That's not even close to pushing the motor yet. That motor will be good for 500whp easy with the proper tuning. __________________________________________________ _________________________________________ Got my Stance LCAs in last week and also ordered the differential risers from PSM to help with the stupid axle angle. Those should be here next week. ![]() I'm deploying in two weeks or so, so this will probably be the last actual update for a while. Plans while I'm gone include: Tomei 2-way diff DSS Axles Stance Subframe Collars Adj. sway bars and endlinks and maybe a few other small bits. Or possibly just some extra wheels and tires since I only have the Enkei's now and don't have any spares besides the shitty stock ones. We'll see what happens.

They look good. It does say they won't work with the VVTi motor though. Not sure if the 1JZ and 2JZ would even utilize the exact same mounts. I haven't looked into it. I'll just keep doing research until it's time. If I don't go 1JZ now, I'll probably just end up doing it down the road. Unless people start finding a magic secret to these FA motors and transmissions to where they aren't blowing them the instant they up the power and torque. EDIT: Here's some pics after cleaning the car up from the long trip. 3,400 miles through rain, snow, sleet and ice with a day and a half of drifting and she still looks great and drives like a champ ![]() ![]()

I see what you're saying, and I agree that the 1jz would be the better investment. You planning on using a r154 or v160?
Keep up the good work dude, stoked to see this build continuing to grow and help me out for my future plans |
