Quad-turbo please!!!

I vote for NA because this is what our car is intended to be. I would like to get FI but it has to be top quality and reliable, about 250-300 whp.

I'm partial to a roots-style supercharger because of the linear powerband and instant response. I've owned two S/C cars and two T/C cars and I definitely preferred the superchargers. Also since I'm building a turbo engine for my MR2, I think I'd rather do something different with the BRZ.

SC for me, I just love low end pull. I dont care to much about speed or power, I just love the solid feel of torque down low especially on a smaller engine. Big v8's that have a good torque curve are to big and clumsy for me.

Smile Never seen SC on Subaru flat 4

Here is a pic of an intercooled EJ25 with 153kw at the wheels for 6psi

Also you should find the dyno chart that goes with this pic

There are dozens of these exact systems on Subaru 4cyl engines worldwide - Impreza's, Legacy's and Libertys

The really pretty one at the bottom makes about 180kw at the tyres on 9psi

SC TVS with W2A cooler.
Something like Edelbrock E-Force system, would be nice.

I think an Eaton R900 TVS would be a perfect compliment to this car. A turbo would likely make more HP and possibly more TQ after 4000 rpm, but the instant boost of a PD blower at lower rpms would be more useful and make for a more fun street car. I'm not against turbos, I just like the power characteristics of a PD blower. I run one (4th gen MP-90) on my V6 Mustang, and rather than being peaky like a centrifugal SC or some turbos, it feels like there is a naturally aspirated big block V8 under the hood. That, and the sound of a PD blower on boost is to die for.

I'm sure this is a dead argument. But I was thinking, wouldn't a sc be more in line with the general mood of the car. Tc has lag and seems to be more for fast pulls on straights.. Whereas a sc gives you power at all RPMs and would make for more aggressive autocross and track, where you might not necessarily reach peak turbo boost... Just a thought.

This is what I am thinking too.

That all turbos have a noticeable lag is a myth. As long as you correctly size your turbo, you can eliminate the feel of lag.

SC will make power in different parts of the power band depending on what type of charger is used. Go and watch Vortech's Dyno plot. Not much power down low, it builds up al the way towads the end where it achieves max power. Both are good choices, you just have to look at power delivery and see what would you like in your car. A proper TC kit will have its advantages over a proper SC kit and vice versa.

+1

Remember, this type of thing is like any modifcation, there is no right or wrong answer. Its about choosing what you want, not what other forums users are telling you to do. We're not all here to do the same thing at the end of the day.

TC

Greddy is working on a kit with a small-moderate size turbo that should be pretty responsive and good around the track, with the median efficiency range around 225-250whp. I trust Greddy (no pun intended) has the understanding of what this car was intended and im sure they r going to be thorough with their R&D to put out a kit that doesnt interfere with the spirit of this car just gives it a little boost in hp...this car was never intended to be a drag superstar...driving str-8 is boring....its more fun to drive a slower car to its limits than a fast car slow. Greddy TC FTW whenever it gets here
