mixing sport with hybrid drivetrain= stupid
I did the math and compared gas $ savings between a honda fit and a honda insight. You'd have to drive about 150k miles (bad for environment) to make up the difference in price and by then you'd probably need to replace the insight's batteries (bad for environment).
Also, most would argue that the fit is more fun on a track than the insight. My conclusion is that hybrids are stupid. At least at this point in time. The crz type-R might be gas only, but why build a track car on a hybrid platform? Sure you'd save money on designing another platform, but hybrid platform will be heavier, less rigid, and/or more expensive than a purpose built sport car platform (ie. ft86). crz=people who like the way crz looks crz type r=people who like the way crz looks and have extra $$$ ft86=people who love driving * I know all the cars I mentioned have little in common. I was trying to illustrate a point. ** The crz type-r may be faster than the ft-86 but then it will probably cost more (even though it's fwd). Last edited by thinkaboutit; 06-04-2010 at 04:13 AM. |

^ The CR-Z didn't get it right, but neither did you. Some thinking outside the box could make for a great hybrid sports car. It's not all about saving $$ on gas.

crz definately didn't get performance right
It's a unique car for sure. I love the body style. But the toyota prius makes way more power than this car and gets better mileage. CRZ might get beat by a Prius soccer mom down the highway.

Wait... How is a 3042lb, 134HP ("Hybrid System Net Power", according to Toyota) Soccer mom driven Prius "making way more power" than a 2700lb 200HP CR-Z? You should probably take heed to your screen name before posting.. |

Let's just see it for what it is. the CR-Z is pig heavy, underpowered, gets shitty gas mileage, and it's suspension sucks. Oh yes, and it's ugly.
And people who compare it to the CRX are idiots, at least according to the lead designer of the Honda CR-Z. He says "any resemblence it has to the CRX is purely coincidental." I call BULLSHIT! How could anyone NOT compare this to the CRX? It looks similar, they advertise it to be the successor.. I used to love honda, but now they are a bunch of morons....and assholes. I hope the CR-Z kills their reputation and forces them to downsize, then hopefully, MAYBE, they'll actually rethink their stategy and actually make fun to drive, small cars that are lightweight, have awesome suspension, cheap, all while getting decent gas mileage. But such is only a dream. IMHO it seems that Hyundai is now becoming what Honda used to be. Such is a good thing. Anyway, i said this on my old honda forum, and i'll say it again here. Increasing the CR-Z's power output to 200HP isn't going to solve any of it's inherent drawbacks. I promise you it will be even heavier in Si/Type-R trim, it will still be as ugly as hell, it will still get weak ass gas mileage, and it's suspension will still be held back by that piece of shit torsion beam. Simply put, if you buy the CR-Z for performance reasons, then you are a complete moron. I have many Honda buddies that share my exact same feelings. |

Honda CR-Z Launched
Honda CR-Z is officially available -- you can build and price it right on the Honda Website.
http://automobiles.honda.com/cr-z/ Starting at 19,200 for the Base, 20,760 for the EX, and 22,560 for the EX w/ Nav. Comes with a 122hp 1.5L 4 cyl with IMA (Integrated Motor Assist) 6 Speed Manual or CVT Paddle shift Tuned Exhaust 3 Mode Hybrid (Sport, Normal, Eco) Sport provides a more responsive throttle, better spring rates, typical sport mode settings. Looks pretty good. Much better than the concept photos from not to long ago.

thats what I was thinking myself, maybe "sport infused design" or something, but not my idea of a "sport" car.
Nice attempt, and I'm sure this car will sell as its a "sport hybrid". I'd get my girlfriend one if I had the money lol |
