Not sure how I'm feeling about the Michelin X-Ice Xi3's right now. We got our first real snowfall last night and after work tonight I went to a restaurant. On the way home I must've fishtailed like 5 times while turning/accelerating on the 5 minute drive home.

Before then I didn't have an issue at all today (when it was above freezing) but I wonder if ice froze on my tires or something while I was at the restaurant because the drive home was pretty sketchy. Who knows, maybe black ice too but it was pretty bad.

Anybody else have similar experiences with the same or different tires?

Haha, I know. The problem though is that I was driving like I was in a Prius. :P

I've driven RWD in the Snow before and it was nothing like this. There were maybe like 6 turns on the way home and I fishtailed on each one. Something was definitely up.

Might have been black ice. Guess we'll see as time goes on.

Hey,

I just got home from a similar or probably WORSE experience. It was riddiculous. Everytime I accelerated I skid. But I don't have winter tires on yet. I thought Mich X-ice would fix my issue. Now you're scaring me!

Is everyone experiencing this even with snow?

Snow tires are not going to stop the car from skidding all the time. Snow and ice will always win.

PoRco, the stock tires on snow is extremely dangerous! Hard to make a comparaison to good snow tires.

Yeah, I need to switch them out quick. There was barely any snow on the road though.

Im afraid to even go out to switch my tires at this point.

I'll get my first true test tomorrow I guess. There's some serious snowfall happening here. Well, serious for here. :P

The thing is, when I wrote that post it had been snowing but it went above 0 so it melted and then went down below 0 so it was freezing.

I guess it's a possibility that it was black ice, but the roads seemed clean and clear from all the traffic. Just couldn't stop skidding with normal driving.

I have the Xi3's as well. I found that on hard packed snow/glare ice the ass end wants to step out from a straight line under very light acceleration. The traction control catches it very nicely though.

I've been out in deep snow today, and all I can say is WOW. Trac on or completely off I was in control, no issues at all. I have no regrets on this purchase. My last car was a Genesis Coupe with Blizzak WS-70's, and by comparison it absolutely sucked in heavy snow - it would want to rotate making any kind of turn at all over 20km/h (not fun on the Cabot Trail in a snow storm). It is nice to have stability when you want it, and kick the ass end out when you want it.

Have you broken in your tires?

Have about 600-700 KM on the tires. I have to admit traction control does a really good job at bringing the car back in line.

I will definitely be nervous the first few times I go up an icy driveway this winter. Might be doing a bit of walking this winter. :P
