So we have basically no issues with small adjustments such as minor increases/decreases in boost and supporting adjustments?

I have a question, are you making individual tunes for people? You said STG1 tune. Does that mean if I buy an NA tune, I'm getting the STG1 Tune that everyone else is getting?

Just to finish the Mac/pc arguement. People buy macs for the same reason the buy the brz over the frs, because they can afford it and don't mind waiting to get the extra frills.
Disclaimer: this does not take into account those that bought the FRS to strip it out and race only, or people that buy monster pc's to be gamers. (even though all major titles are starting to come out dual platform) but back on topic.

I believe he is referring to the question about reverting to stock and can the dealer tell its been flashed. I think somebody said the dealer can't see it but corporate Toyota or Subaru could see it (not sure how that works). But Visconti said he was going to check with a buddy of his who has dealer tools to see if he would be able to find the flash history.

Back on topic indeed. I haven't seen any answers to any of my questions. 1) Can this be detectable by the dealer? Yes or no. Guarantees offered? 2) Are we forced to only flashing the maps you send us? Or do we get to tweak them ourselves? I have pretty extensive tuning experience myself so I could easily fix something that might not function entirely correctly on my particular car. 3) Are they available for order yet?

I'm just too busy to find my post and quote it. Dealership can detect any flash. There is no flash counter in the ECU. The dealership inserts a flash counter in the ecu when the car gets a flash update for warranty reasons. This counter can only be moved up or down via the dealer tool. It's not the type of counter that can count when you flash the car with EcuTek tools. So lets say you get my flash, go to the dealer for warranty work - like car keeps stalling or CEL thats not related to the tune. You simply remove the tune and bring the car in. If they end up flashing the car all we do is READ OUT your ECU. Save it and we have two options. 1. I rewrite the tune on your NEW stock file that has contains the dealer warranty info on it. 2. Flash back the original tune file and save your new dealer rom that we just read from the ecu and save it as the new the stock file. Remember if you bring your car in for normal service they don't check, they dont care. These guys aren't paid to kill your warranty. They only touch the ECU when they have to and for example - lets say you needed a motor replacement lol - this is when the dealer would run thru this check grab certain numbers that appear on the screen and email them to Subaru North America - Then only Subaru North American will know if currently has a flash on it. I've personally worked with the Subaru dealer tool when a motor was being warrantied and when Subaru North America was on the phone asking for info. I did a bunch of testing with a flash, without a flash etc etc to see how it works. So I fully understand we needs to be done. -John |

I built my machine for a 5th of the price of a Mac that would never have the same capabilities. Basically you can liken our GT86/twins to the PC and the apple to a Porsche Cayman. With the latter you get a name that comes with a solid reputation and a very capable car with pricey service. Most owners will not customize or modify. However, with a Scion FR-S you pay a fraction of a price. You get a rather meaningless name though that name is backed by a solid and reliable company. You get inexpensive service or even service you can perform yourself. You get a car that handles as well as the other though it may have less grunt to it. The packaging isn't as fancy but most owners will alter or customize to their liking. In addition, while handling is on par in stock form one can very easily make some modifications to outperform the other car. I'm sorry to continue the derailment... I just hate apple enough that I ended up losing the willpower battle against chiming in. John, you've impressed me with all the work you're doing for this platform. I've got no qualms about your pricing and I'm glad you are not all that far away. You will be getting my business when I'm ready to start modding financially. Heres a question I haven't seen so far:
So the cable can do more than just flash such as logging etc, can we buy just the cable now without tune or license to split the cost up a bit and still be able to log? Then down the road get license/tune. |
