In all reality they could address the elephant a multiple ways, and I'm about 98% sure the majority of the "no more power" crowd would instantly be wanting to upgrade somehow.

You are applying your bias across the board. Sure some may jump over but not sure it would be a majority by any stretch.

Sure, there would be people who still made fun of the car but that's just reality. Ford vs Chevy is an American tradition and has given us some great memes over the years, lol.

But you're right, there's a lot of variables to it. Will it cost an extra $8k to get me a 200/200 86? Well, then, no, I won't be buying that. Or, I'd at least wait and buy used.

And you may be overestimating. This forum does not represent the average owner of these cars so the number of people screaming for more power is rather skewed against what the general public is interested in. Hard to believe but not everybody buying them is an "enthusiast" in the distorted use of the term. There are more sold to the average Joe that just thinks it is a cool car than there are to the different sub groups we have here.

EDIT: I just realized I was talking about the base while you may have been talking about something like a small number special edition? If talking a limited number special edition then yes I agree they would probably fly off the lots and make a bunch of people happy.

I saw an 86 on the interstate once and caught up to it and waved. It was some older lady.

The other one in my town is always parked at the daycare, lol.

LOL About 60% of the ones I have seen have been driven by somebody that looks older than me and that is really saying something!

2015, heh. Thanks for that!

Bottom line if subaru does bring out a new model with just a 1,000 dollar wing and side skirts I will know they just don't care.

Not saying jump over, but try to adapt parts or have the inevitable motor swap questions coming up etc. Hell I've already adapted parts from the 2017, lol.

I honestly can't believe if this car didn't come with MORE power stock people would be saying "no, it doesn't need that much....can't you give us less?" Even then people would want more.

A lot of people would be happy yes. My point is that this is not something that EVERYBODY wants. Most certainly nobody would want to go backwards but there would not be this massive sales increase that people seem to think. My dealer has said a couple of times that they have lost several sales to people that test drove it and the car scared them. Know that sounds weird on here but that is the reality of the vast majority of car buyers. The high level Mustangs of fame make up about 5% of the sales numbers yet if "car guys" think of Mustangs those are the ones they are talking about. Joe and Jill Average just don't give a rat's ass about HP as long as the car is cool. Any across the board price jump or wild power increase would lose some of that market and the sales would probably remain about even.
I personally would not be adverse to another 50HP or so but do not for one second think that I speak for "everybody" as get's said all the time.

If you go back to my quote I said 98% of the "no more power" people....so not everybody. If the twins came out with a significant upgrade to power I'm sure that would make a lot of people who hold that mentality rethink it. Not everybody.

In the terms of the average car buyer....most people can't effing drive, so that that person doesn't want a decent car.

Cosworth is not a car manufacturer and they have more freedom.

Additionally, you'll get most of the gains only if you use 98 RON (94 AKI) fuel. Subaru would never sell such a car. It is nonsense.

Yet they still buy more of these cars than the "enthusiasts" so they are the ones the manufacturers will eventually bow to on it. May get the more power that everybody wants but they will dumb down the rest of the car so little Joey doesn't kill himself.

We have seen the results of this in many cars in the past.

EVERYBODY? Everybody??? *Scoffs* not everyone wants more power in this perfect chassis. You can't be so inclusive with your blanket statements.

In all seriousness....at least they'd progress the platform in some way or another. Bodykits and 5 HP is not progression.

Ya I forgot the quotation marks so "everybody" turned to everybody.

Agree they need to change something up to progress the car. Unfortunately we may not like the direction they progress it in.

Not true. It can be a 49 state, dealer installed package. The car is supposed to use premium anyways.

What you're asking for is for an aftermarket to partner with local dealerships to offer tuning/aftermarket packages that is then covered by the manufacturer through the dealership. Subaru itself would never sell something like that.

APR actually started such a program with VW dealerships.
